Map2Model alternative

A free Map2Model alternative

Map2Model has shut down. Mini Skyline turns any place on Earth into a 3D printable map in your browser: real buildings, roads, water and terrain, saved as a multi-colour 3MF for your slicer. It is free, needs no account, and you can sell what you print.

Make your first model in three steps

  1. Open the map and search for the place you want to print.
  2. Draw the area, then choose the size, the height and the colours. Check the result in the 3D preview.
  3. Download the 3MF and open it in your slicer. Each feature is already on its own filament.
  • Draw the area as a rectangle, a circle or a freeform outline, or use a city or district outline.
  • Buildings, roads, water, parks and terrain each print as their own named part and colour.
  • Over 3,500 landmark models, placed at real size where the real building stands.
  • A 3MF made for Bambu Studio that also opens in PrusaSlicer and Cura. One filament works too.
  • Free, with no account and no export limit. Selling your prints costs nothing.

What happened to Map2Model

Map2Model was a free hobby project that turned map areas into printable models. Its maker shut it down after receiving legal notices about parts of the tool. The notice now on map2model.com (read on 23 October 2026) lists other tools to try, and Mini Skyline is first on that list, marked "Recommended, free commercial license". Your slicer setup stays the same

Mini Skyline saves a 3MF built for Bambu Studio, with every feature as a named part on its own filament, so an AMS prints it in colour without repainting. It also opens in PrusaSlicer and Cura, and prints in a single filament if that is all you have.

Selling what you print

Mini Skyline charges no fee and takes no share when you sell a print. The map data has its own terms, usually a credit line, so every export records which sources it used and whether they allow selling. How commercial use works

More than a city tile

Make terrain maps of mountains and coastlines, split a big city into tiles that share one scale, add GPX trails, frames and text, or print the Moon, Mars, Mercury, Venus, Ceres and Vesta.

Need an STL?

Mini Skyline saves 3MF, which keeps every colour and named part. If another program needs an STL, open the 3MF in your slicer and export an STL from there.

Comparing other tools

Printed Canyon, Maps3D, MapsTo3D and others also turn maps into models. The comparison page lines them up feature by feature, and every claim about another tool links to that tool’s own site. Compare map tools

Common questions

Is Mini Skyline a good Map2Model alternative?

Map2Model’s own shutdown notice lists Mini Skyline first and marks it as recommended. It does the same job: draw an area on the map and download a printable multi-colour 3MF. It is free and needs no account.

Is Map2Model coming back?

The notice on map2model.com, read on 23 October 2026, says it has been shut down and does not mention a return.

Is Mini Skyline free?

Yes. Every feature is free, with no account and no export limit. Donations through Buy Me a Coffee are optional.

Can I keep using my Map2Model files?

The 3MF files you saved from Map2Model still open in your slicer. Mini Skyline does not open Map2Model projects, so to change a model, draw the same area again in Mini Skyline.

Does it work with a Bambu Lab printer and AMS?

Yes. The 3MF is made for Bambu Studio: every feature is a named part on its own filament, ready for an AMS. You can also print it in one colour.

Can I sell prints made with Mini Skyline?

Yes, with no fee or revenue share. Keep the credit line for the map data: every export records its sources and whether they allow selling.
