About Veltins-Arena
Gelsenkirchen, in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, is home to Arena AufSchalke, which carries the sponsored name Veltins-Arena. This football stadium has a retractable roof and a pitch that slides out. FC Schalke 04 gained it as their new home ground when it opened on August 13, 2001. Its capacity is 62,271 for league games and 54,740 for internationals, and a German brewery, Veltins, bought the naming rights in July 2005. Matches here have included four games at UEFA Euro 2024, five games of the 2006 FIFA World Cup, the 2010 IIHF World Championship's opening game and the 2004 UEFA Champions League final.
Beneath the site, at 800 m (2,600 ft), run two shafts belonging to the Consolidation and Hugo coal mines. Because of the ground-movement risk, the main axis of the stadium was turned from north–south to northeast–southwest, making it parallel to the mines. The arena sits on club-owned land known as the "Berger Feld", close to the old Parkstadion. Packed slag from steel smelting, 600,000 cubic meters (21,000,000 cu ft) of it, forms part of the foundation along with cast concrete.
A Teflon-coated fiberglass canvas roof spans the stadium, carried by a rectangular truss that hangs above the pitch and joins the main building through 24 steel pylons. Its central section opens in two halves. The playing field itself can slide out of the stadium and back in within four hours, so the grass can be kept outside in natural light and fresh air. Four video screens hang 25 m (82 ft) above the center of the pitch.
How it prints
Make this print opens the generator on a 600 m square around the landmark. Buildings print at close to true scale, so the landmark grows with the print size.
| Print size | Landmark height | Scale |
|---|---|---|
| 160 mm default | 17 mm | 1:3,750 |
| 200 mm | 21 mm | 1:3,000 |

- Seams across the roof
- The roof carries fine seams and creases. Print friendly adapts them to the print scale; Full detail keeps them on a larger print, ideally with 0.12–0.16 mm layers.
- Stair towers and thin columns
- Open stair towers and slim columns stand around the outside. Print slowly with good cooling so these slender parts stay clean.
- One piece with the ground
- Veltins-Arena is joined to the ground in the exported file, and the four-side check found no floating parts, so nothing needs gluing.
- Pick the detail for your nozzle
- In the Buildings settings, set Landmark detail to Print friendly to adapt thin parts and small details to the print scale. Full detail keeps every modeled feature, for larger prints or a finer nozzle.
- Colors
- Buildings, roads, water and ground arrive as separate filament slots in the 3MF. Veltins-Arena takes the building color.
- File format
- You get a 3MF for Bambu Studio, OrcaSlicer or PrusaSlicer. Any of them can save it as STL if you need one.
About this model
Veltins-Arena is one of more than 2,300 landmark models in Mini Skyline. They are made with AI, and each one is checked from four sides in its real surroundings before release. Everything around it is built from OpenStreetMap and Overture map data. If you would rather print the shape from map data, turn off Landmark models in the Buildings settings.
Common questions
Is there a Veltins-Arena STL I can download?
Mini Skyline builds the file for you in your browser and exports 3MF, which every major slicer opens. If you need an STL, open the 3MF in your slicer and export it from there.
How big can I print it?
Any print size from 40 mm across. Veltins-Arena grows with the print: about 17 mm tall on the default 160 mm print. For a model larger than your printer bed, Project Mode splits the area into tiles.
Is it free?
Yes. Generation runs in your browser, with no account and nothing behind a paywall.
