About Neuschwanstein Castle

Neuschwanstein Castle is a historicist palace from the 19th century, standing on a rugged hill in the Alpine foothills of southern Germany, close to the Austrian border. It lies in the municipality of Schwangau in Bavaria, above the village of Hohenschwangau, and overlooks the narrow Pöllat gorge, with the lakes Alpsee and Schwansee to its west. Guinness World Records lists it as the tallest castle in the world, at 65 m (213 ft).

King Ludwig II of Bavaria commissioned the castle as a retreat, away from the constraints he felt in Munich, and partly as a tribute to the composer Richard Wagner, whom he admired greatly. Construction ran from 1869 to 1892 on plans by Eduard Riedel, and the three-winged complex is in the Neo-Romanesque style, with medieval knights' castles as its architectural model. Its throne room, bedroom and minstrels' hall stand out among the interiors.

Ludwig paid for the castle from his personal fortune and through heavy borrowing, not from Bavarian public funds. It was meant as the king's private residence, but he died in 1886 and the castle was opened to the public soon after. Today it can be visited on guided tours, and it is part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site that also covers Linderhof, Schachen and Herrenchiemsee.

How it prints

Make this print opens the generator on a 600 m square around the landmark. Buildings print at close to true scale, so the landmark grows with the print size.

Landmark height and scale at three print sizes

Many slender spires
The castle bristles with pointed turrets and thin pinnacles. Print friendly adapts the smallest ones to the print scale; Full detail keeps them on a larger print, ideally with 0.12–0.16 mm layers.
Small windows and rooflines
The tall facades carry many arched windows, dormers and rooflines. A larger print keeps more of them, or pick Full detail with a fine nozzle.
One piece with the ground
Neuschwanstein Castle is joined to the ground in the exported file, and the four-side check found no floating parts, so nothing needs gluing.
Pick the detail for your nozzle
In the Buildings settings, set Landmark detail to Print friendly to adapt thin parts and small details to the print scale. Full detail keeps every modeled feature, for larger prints or a finer nozzle.
Colors
Buildings, roads, water and ground arrive as separate filament slots in the 3MF. Neuschwanstein Castle takes the building color.
File format
You get a 3MF for Bambu Studio, OrcaSlicer or PrusaSlicer. Any of them can save it as STL if you need one.

Common questions

Is there a Neuschwanstein Castle STL I can download?

Mini Skyline builds the file for you in your browser and exports 3MF, which every major slicer opens. If you need an STL, open the 3MF in your slicer and export it from there.

How big can I print it?

Any print size from 40 mm across. Neuschwanstein Castle grows with the print: about 23 mm tall on the default 160 mm print. For a model larger than your printer bed, Project Mode splits the area into tiles.

Is it free?

Yes. Generation runs in your browser, with no account and nothing behind a paywall.
