About Jezero crater
Jezero is an impact crater about 45 km (28 mi) across on the western edge of Isidis Planitia. More than 3.5 billion years ago rivers ran into a lake here and left a delta on the crater's western side, and NASA chose it after a five-year study of more than 60 sites as a place to look for signs of ancient life.
Perseverance landed on February 18, 2021. The Ingenuity helicopter it carried made the first powered, controlled flight on another planet on April 19, 2021, and flew 72 times although it was built for five. In December 2024 the rover reached the top of the crater rim after climbing about 500 m (1,640 ft).
