19 mm tall on a 160 mm print
Make this print opens the generator on a 600 m square around the landmark. Buildings print at close to true scale, so the landmark grows with the print size.
- Tall straight walls
The tall, straight faces print cleanly at 0.12–0.16 mm layers. A larger print keeps the roofline sharp; Print friendly adapts small edge details.
- Crisp upper floors
The upper floors are the most delicate area. Print slowly with good cooling, and use Full detail for a large print or a fine nozzle.
- One piece with the ground
Dortmunder U is joined to the ground in the exported file, and the four-side check found no floating parts, so nothing needs gluing.
- Pick the detail for your nozzle
In the Buildings settings, set Landmark detail to Print friendly to adapt thin parts and small details to the print scale. Full detail keeps every modeled feature, for larger prints or a finer nozzle.
- Colors
Buildings, roads, water and ground arrive as separate filament slots in the 3MF. Dortmunder U takes the building color.
- File format
You get a 3MF for Bambu Studio, OrcaSlicer or PrusaSlicer. Any of them can save it as STL if you need one.
About Dortmunder U
The Dortmunder U, also called the U-Tower, is a former brewery building in Dortmund, Germany. Between 1926 and 1927 it became the city's first high-rise, and the Union Brewery used it to ferment and store its products. In 1994 the brewery closed and its surrounding buildings were demolished, but the U-Tower was spared because it held landmark status.
In January 2008 the tower was picked for redevelopment as a flagship project for Ruhr 2010, the Cultural Capital of Europe. Since 2010 it has been a center for art and creativity and houses, among other facilities, the Museum Ostwall. It displays works from the 20th and 21st centuries and brings together the museum, the Hartware MedienKunstVerein, the city's cultural office, two universities and other partners.
People regard the U-Tower as one of Dortmund's central places, with creative catering and event facilities. A restaurant occupies the U7 floor. Other users of the building include the association U Cinema, which operates the RWE Forum, and the European Centre for Creative Economy. It also develops cultural education concepts and partnerships between art and science.
