193 m of the Guardian Building, 41 mm on your shelf
Make this print opens the generator on a 600 m square around the landmark. Buildings print at close to true scale, so the landmark grows with the print size.
- Two unequal towers
The two end towers and their stepped crowns are the tallest and thinnest parts. Use Full detail and a slower print so the crests keep their separate peaks.
- Punched windows in masonry
The long facades depend on many small punched window recesses. Layers of 0.12 to 0.16 mm keep them readable, or print larger to preserve the rhythm.
- One piece with the ground
The Guardian Building is joined to the ground in the exported file, and the four-side check found no floating parts, so nothing needs gluing.
- Pick the detail for your nozzle
In the Buildings settings, set Landmark detail to Print friendly to adapt thin parts and small details to the print scale. Full detail keeps every modeled feature, for larger prints or a finer nozzle.
- Colors
Buildings, roads, water and ground arrive as separate filament slots in the 3MF. The Guardian Building takes the building color.
- File format
You get a 3MF for Bambu Studio, OrcaSlicer or PrusaSlicer. Any of them can save it as STL if you need one.
About the Guardian Building
The Guardian Building is a 43-story office tower in downtown Detroit, Michigan, in the Financial District. Construction ran from 1928 to 1929, and the building was first called the Union Trust Building. Its design is a bold Art Deco work that also includes art moderne elements. In 1989 it received National Historic Landmark designation.
Thirty-two stories form the main frame, which carries two spires of unequal height; one rises seven stories further. Measured to the roof, the tower stands 496 ft (151 m), while its top floor is 489 ft (149 m) and the spire tops out at 632 ft (192.6 m). The nickname Cathedral of Finance comes from the building's church-like form and from New York City's Woolworth Building, earlier known as the Cathedral of Commerce. Inside and outside, the building carries Native American themes.
Wirt C. Rowland, working for Smith, Hinchman & Grylls, served as architect. Above a six-story base of granite and stone, the exterior mixes brick, tile, limestone and terra cotta; at the Griswold Street entrance stand two sculptures by Corrado Parducci. The vaulted lobby, three stories high, is decorated with Pewabic and Rookwood tile. A Monel metal screen with a Tiffany clock sets the lobby apart from the banking hall.
