About Monserrate

Monserrate is a mountain towering over the center of Bogotá, Colombia's capital. The top sits 3,152 meters above sea level (10,341 ft), and there stands a 17th-century church holding a shrine to the statue called El Señor Caído, "The Fallen Lord". Up there are also restaurants, a cafeteria and souvenir shops.

In pre-Columbian times the Muisca, who inhabited the area, already considered the mountain sacred, and they called it quijicha caca, "grandmother's foot". In the 1620s a brotherhood, the Cofradia de la Vera Cruz, started holding religious celebrations on the hilltop. In 1650 four men sought approval for a small religious retreat up there. By the 19th century, the Virgin of Montserrat sculpture had been taken off the hill as the sanctuary's center piece and replaced with El Señor Caído.

Visitors can ride an aerial tramway or a funicular, or climb, which is the way pilgrims prefer. The route on foot runs 2.4 km (1.5 mi); the trip takes from 50 minutes to 3 hours and gains 600 m (2,000 ft) of elevation. From the summit, downtown Bogotá lies in view to the west, so it is a favorite place to see the sunset.

How it prints

Make this print opens the generator on a 600 m square around the landmark. Buildings print at close to true scale, so the landmark grows with the print size.

Landmark height and scale at three print sizes
Print size Landmark height Scale
160 mm default 26 mm 1:3,750
200 mm 32 mm 1:3,000
256 mm 41 mm 1:2,344

Slim bell tower on a steep slope
A small bell tower rises from the church roofline. Print friendly adapts it to the print scale; for a fine nozzle, Full detail keeps every modeled feature, and a bigger print keeps small details.
Hillside base
The church sits on a sharply sloping hill, so the model includes a tall base beneath it. Print slowly with good cooling for the tower, and keep layers at 0.12–0.16 mm for the roof lines.
One piece with the ground
Monserrate is joined to the ground in the exported file, and the four-side check found no floating parts, so nothing needs gluing.
Pick the detail for your nozzle
In the Buildings settings, set Landmark detail to Print friendly to adapt thin parts and small details to the print scale. Full detail keeps every modeled feature, for larger prints or a finer nozzle.
Colors
Buildings, roads, water and ground arrive as separate filament slots in the 3MF. Monserrate takes the building color.
File format
You get a 3MF for Bambu Studio, OrcaSlicer or PrusaSlicer. Any of them can save it as STL if you need one.

About this model

Monserrate is one of more than 2,300 landmark models in Mini Skyline. They are made with AI, and each one is checked from four sides in its real surroundings before release. Everything around it is built from OpenStreetMap and Overture map data. If you would rather print the shape from map data, turn off Landmark models in the Buildings settings.

Common questions

Is there a Monserrate STL I can download?

Mini Skyline builds the file for you in your browser and exports 3MF, which every major slicer opens. If you need an STL, open the 3MF in your slicer and export it from there.

How big can I print it?

Any print size from 40 mm across. Monserrate grows with the print: about 26 mm tall on the default 160 mm print. For a model larger than your printer bed, Project Mode splits the area into tiles.

Is it free?

Yes. Generation runs in your browser, with no account and nothing behind a paywall.
