About SLIM landing site
JAXA's Smart Lander for Investigating Moon, SLIM, touched down on January 19, 2024 (UTC) beside Shioli, a fresh crater about 270 m (890 ft) across. It landed about 55 m (180 ft) from its target, meeting its goal of landing within 100 m (330 ft).
One of its two main engines most likely lost thrust shortly before touchdown, and SLIM came to rest in an unexpected attitude with its solar cells facing west, so they could not make power. Shioli is named after a Japanese female given name.
