The print covers 12 by 12 km. On a 160 mm print the summit stands 36 mm above the valleys.

  • Taller than life

The print opens with the Elevation multiplier at 1.5, so the mountain stands 1.5 times its true height and its shape reads clearly at this size. Set it to 1 for true scale.

  • The trail

The Longs Peak Trail prints as a raised 1.2 mm orange line, drawn from its OpenStreetMap route. Give it its own filament color, or turn it off on the GPX tab.

  • Colors

Forest, meadow, bare rock, ice and water each get their own color where the land has them, so a multi-color printer shows where the trees give way to rock.

About Longs Peak

Longs Peak is the northernmost fourteener in the Rocky Mountains, rising to 14,256 feet (4,345 m) in the Front Range of Colorado. It is the highest point in Rocky Mountain National Park and in Boulder County.

The mountain is named after the explorer Stephen Harriman Long, and it appears on the Colorado state quarter.

The Longs Peak Trail

The hike from the trailhead to the summit is 8.4 miles (13.5 km) each way, with 4,875 feet of climbing. The hardest part begins at the Boulder Field, 6.4 miles in, and hikers reach the Keyhole at 6.7 miles.

The print draws the Longs Peak Trail from OpenStreetMap.

Common questions

Is the Longs Peak 3D print free?

Yes. The generator runs in your browser and exports a 3MF file you can open in any common slicer. There is no account or payment.

Is the Longs Peak Trail on the print?

Yes. Print this mountain adds it from its OpenStreetMap route (11 km as mapped) and raises it on the terrain. The footprint is 12 by 12 km, centered on the summit and wide enough for all of it.

Is the mountain printed at its true height?

It starts at 1.5 times its true height, about 36 mm of relief on a 160 mm print, because true scale looks flat at this size. Set the Elevation multiplier to 1 for true scale, or higher for a more dramatic model.

Can I get an STL instead of a 3MF?

The generator exports 3MF, which keeps each color as its own part. Any slicer can open it and save an STL if you need one.
