Make this print opens the generator on a 600 m square around the landmark. Buildings print at close to true scale, so the landmark grows with the print size.

  1. Clock tower and roof turrets

The central clock tower ends in a small domed top, and pointed roofs mark the corners. Print friendly adapts the thinnest tips to the print scale, while Full detail keeps them on larger prints.

  2. Fine layers for the facade

The ornate front has many arched windows and projecting bays. Layers of 0.12 to 0.16 mm keep them crisp, and a larger print size keeps more of the carved detail.

  3. One piece with the ground

Cape Town City Hall is joined to the ground in the exported file, and the four-side check found no floating parts, so nothing needs gluing.

  4. Pick the detail for your nozzle

In the Buildings settings, set Landmark detail to Print friendly to adapt thin parts and small details to the print scale. Full detail keeps every modeled feature, for larger prints or a finer nozzle.

  5. Colors

Buildings, roads, water and ground arrive as separate filament slots in the 3MF. Cape Town City Hall takes the building color.

  6. File format

You get a 3MF for Bambu Studio, OrcaSlicer or PrusaSlicer. Any of them can save it as STL if you need one.

About Cape Town City Hall

Standing in Cape Town's city center on the Grand Parade, west of the Castle, the City Hall is a big Edwardian building dating from 1905. Its walls are honey-colored oolitic limestone brought from Bath in England, and much of the other material, including the fixtures and fittings, was also imported from Europe. Until 1905, the city had no city hall of its own, even though the local authorities had their own town halls.

A city hall was first proposed in 1887, around the time of Queen Victoria's Golden Jubilee, as a tribute. After the town council approved a scheme in 1893, a public competition followed, assessed by H S Greaves, Public Works' chief architect. The winning architects were Frederick George Green and Harry Austin Reid, while T. Howard and F. G. Scott were the contractors. Hyman Liberman, the Mayor of Cape Town, formally opened the building.

In the tower, a turret clock strikes each hour and chimes the Westminster quarters; its four skeleton iron dials are filled with opal. The organ, built by Norman and Beard, has 3,165 pipes ranging from 32 feet (10 meters) to three-quarters of an inch (19 millimeters). Nelson Mandela spoke from the balcony on February 11, 1990, giving his first public speech within hours of his release from prison, and a statue of him on that balcony was unveiled on July 24, 2018.
