About Dowdy–Ficklen Stadium

East Carolina University's on-campus football stadium, Dowdy–Ficklen Stadium, is in Greenville, North Carolina, and is home to the East Carolina Pirates. Several expansions took it from a 10,000-seat original to an official capacity of 51,000. The university also holds its Spring Commencement exercises there, and the playing field was named Bagwell Field in 1997.

The stadium opened on September 21, 1963, as Ficklen Memorial Stadium, named for James Skinner Ficklen, who owned the E.B. Skinner Tobacco Company of Greenville. Permanent north-side seating in 1967 and 1968 raised that to 20,000, and seats added to the four corners in 1977 raised it to 35,000, which made it North Carolina's third largest stadium at that point. A $1 million donation from Ronald and Mary Ellen Dowdy in 1994 led to the new name.

A north-side upper deck finished in 1998 lifted the capacity to 40,000, and a club level in 1999 added 3,000 seats. That year a Pirate sculpture, a bronze of three tons, more than 6.1 m (20 feet) high, was dedicated in the southeast area. The 2009–2010 expansion built 7,000 seats in the east end zone, joining the stands on the north and south in a horseshoe form. TowneBank Tower, which opened in August 2019, holds 530 club seats, 22 loge boxes, 19 skyboxes and four founder suites, plus more than 100 media seats.

How it prints

Make this print opens the generator on a 600 m square around the landmark. Buildings print at close to true scale, so the landmark grows with the print size.

Slender supports under the stands
Thin columns and braces run under the outer stands. Print friendly adapts thin parts to the print scale; Full detail keeps them, which suits a larger print.
Many rows of seating
Curved tiers of seats make closely spaced lines around the bowl. Layers of 0.12 to 0.16 mm keep the tiers distinct, and a bigger print size keeps more of them.
One piece with the ground
Dowdy–Ficklen Stadium is joined to the ground in the exported file, and the four-side check found no floating parts, so nothing needs gluing.
Pick the detail for your nozzle
In the Buildings settings, set Landmark detail to Print friendly to adapt thin parts and small details to the print scale. Full detail keeps every modeled feature, for larger prints or a finer nozzle.
Colors
Buildings, roads, water and ground arrive as separate filament slots in the 3MF. Dowdy–Ficklen Stadium takes the building color.
File format
You get a 3MF for Bambu Studio, OrcaSlicer or PrusaSlicer. Any of them can save it as STL if you need one.

Common questions

Is there a Dowdy–Ficklen Stadium STL I can download?

Mini Skyline builds the file for you in your browser and exports 3MF, which every major slicer opens. If you need an STL, open the 3MF in your slicer and export it from there.

How big can I print it?

Any print size from 40 mm across. Dowdy–Ficklen Stadium grows with the print: about 13 mm tall on the default 160 mm print. For a model larger than your printer bed, Project Mode splits the area into tiles.

Is it free?
