About Kronborg
In the Danish town of Helsingør stands Kronborg, a castle that served as a stronghold. Shakespeare's play Hamlet immortalized it as Elsinore, and it ranks among Northern Europe's most important Renaissance castles. Its UNESCO World Heritage listing dates from 2000. The castle occupies the northeast tip of Zealand, a Danish island, where the Øresund narrows to only 4 km (2.5 mi) across, which gave a coastal fortification here strategic importance.
In the 1420s King Eric VII built a stronghold on the site, called Krogen. With Kärnan, a fortress in Helsingborg on the opposite coast, it controlled the way into the Baltic Sea. Between 1574 and 1585 the medieval fortress was reshaped into a Renaissance castle on the orders of King Frederick II. Hans Hendrik van Paesschen served as a main architect, as did Anthonis van Obbergen, and Gert van Groningen coordinated the sculptural work. Its outer walls were faced with Scania sandstone, and the castle received a copper roof.
A fire in 1629 consumed much of the castle, and King Christian IV later had it rebuilt. Only the chapel was spared, thanks to the strength of its ceiling vaults. Swedish forces besieged and captured Kronborg in 1658, and many of its art treasures were taken as booty. After the defenses were strengthened, it was regarded as Europe's strongest fortress. In 1785 it stopped being a royal residence and became a barracks; the Army departed in 1923, and once thoroughly renovated the complex opened to the public.
How it prints
Make this print opens the generator on a 600 m square around the landmark. Buildings print at close to true scale, so the landmark grows with the print size.
| Print size | Landmark height | Scale |
|---|---|---|
| 160 mm default | 17 mm | 1:3,750 |
| 200 mm | 21 mm | 1:3,000 |

- Slender turret spires
- Slim spires cap the corner turrets and the central tower. Print friendly adapts these thin tips to the print scale; Full detail keeps them, which suits a larger print. Printing slowly with good cooling helps tall thin tips form cleanly.
- Stepped gables and small dormers
- Stepped gables and rows of small dormers break up the rooflines. A bigger print size keeps them distinct, and layers of 0.12 to 0.16 mm keep the steps crisp.
- Pick the detail for your nozzle
- In the Buildings settings, set Landmark detail to Print friendly to adapt thin parts and small details to the print scale. Full detail keeps every modeled feature, for larger prints or a finer nozzle.
- Colors
- Buildings, roads, water and ground arrive as separate filament slots in the 3MF. Kronborg takes the building color.
- File format
- You get a 3MF for Bambu Studio, OrcaSlicer or PrusaSlicer. Any of them can save it as STL if you need one.
About this model
Kronborg is one of more than 2,300 landmark models in Mini Skyline. They are made with AI, and each one is checked from four sides in its real surroundings before release. Everything around it is built from OpenStreetMap and Overture map data. If you would rather print the shape from map data, turn off Landmark models in the Buildings settings.
Common questions
Is there a Kronborg STL I can download?
Mini Skyline builds the file for you in your browser and exports 3MF, which every major slicer opens. If you need an STL, open the 3MF in your slicer and export it from there.
How big can I print it?
Any print size from 40 mm across. Kronborg grows with the print: about 17 mm tall on the default 160 mm print. For a model larger than your printer bed, Project Mode splits the area into tiles.
Is it free?
Yes. Generation runs in your browser, with no account and nothing behind a paywall.
