179 m of Marina City, 51 mm on your shelf
Make this print opens the generator on a 600 m square around the landmark. Buildings print at close to true scale, so the landmark grows with the print size.
- Stacked balcony slabs
Each tower is a stack of thin curved balcony slabs. Print friendly adapts these fine layers to your print scale; Full detail keeps every slab, so a larger print shows the scalloped edges best.
- Tall, narrow twin towers
Both towers are tall and narrow. Print slowly with good cooling, and use layers of 0.12 to 0.16 mm to keep the balcony edges and the rooftop cylinders crisp.
- One piece with the ground
Marina City is joined to the ground in the exported file, and the four-side check found no floating parts, so nothing needs gluing.
- Pick the detail for your nozzle
In the Buildings settings, set Landmark detail to Print friendly to adapt thin parts and small details to the print scale. Full detail keeps every modeled feature, for larger prints or a finer nozzle.
- Colors
Buildings, roads, water and ground arrive as separate filament slots in the 3MF. Marina City takes the building color.
- File format
You get a 3MF for Bambu Studio, OrcaSlicer or PrusaSlicer. Any of them can save it as STL if you need one.
About Marina City
Marina City is a mixed-use complex of homes and businesses in Chicago, designed by Bertrand Goldberg in 1959. It sits on State Street, on the Chicago River's north bank, facing the Loop across the water. The complex has two 65-story apartment towers, each 179 m (587 ft) tall, which opened in 1963. An office building of 10 stories opened in 1964 and became a hotel later. The complex also has a saddle-shaped auditorium building that was a cinema at first. The four buildings share a raised platform beside the river, and a small marina at river level beneath it gives the complex its name.
When finished, no residential building in the world was taller than the two towers, and no reinforced concrete structure rose higher. It was constructed as a "city within a city". On site were stores, restaurants, a theater, a gym, a bowling alley, an ice rink, a swimming pool and the marina. Media have noted the towers' resemblance to rural Illinois corncobs.
The bottom 19 floors of each tower form an exposed spiral parking ramp, and apartments fill floors 21 through 60. The units are sector-shaped, 16 of them around a circular hallway, and the apartments contain almost no interior right angles. Each unit ends in a semi-circular balcony, which means every living room and bedroom has one. In 2016, parts of the complex became a Chicago Landmark.
About this model
Marina City is one of more than 4,300 landmark models in Mini Skyline. They are made with AI, and each one is checked from four sides in its real surroundings before release. Everything around it is built from OpenStreetMap and Overture map data. If you would rather print the shape from map data, turn off Landmark models in the Buildings settings.
