About the Trump International Hotel and Tower
Also known as the Trump Tower, the Trump International Hotel and Tower is a hotel-and-condominium skyscraper in downtown Chicago, Illinois, set within the Near North Side community area. It stands at 401 North Wabash Avenue, beside the Chicago River's main branch. Its neighbors along the river include the Michigan Avenue Bridge and the Wrigley Building to the east and Marina City to the west. It is named for Donald Trump; Skidmore, Owings and Merrill's Adrian Smith was the architect. Bovis Lend Lease built it between 2005 and 2009.
The tower reaches 423.2 meters (1,388 feet) including its spire, and its roof tops out at 356 meters (1,169 feet). Three setbacks, each one echoing the height of a neighboring building, give the tower visual continuity with the skyline around it, and the setbacks and rounded edges help combat vortex formation. The curtain wall combines clear low-emissivity coated glass with curved, wing-shaped polished stainless-steel mullions. Its floor space comes to 240,000 m², or 2.6 million square feet, layered from the ground up with retail space, parking, a hotel and condominiums.
In 2001 Donald Trump said the skyscraper would become the world's tallest building, but the architects reduced the plans after the September 11 attacks that year, and the design was revised several times. When the structure topped out, it ranked as the second-tallest building in the United States. It overtook the John Hancock Center for the world's highest residence in any building, a title it held briefly until the Burj Khalifa was completed. The tower's hotel has 339 guest rooms.
How it prints
Make this print opens the generator on a 600 m square around the landmark. Buildings print at close to true scale, so the landmark grows with the print size.
| Print size | Landmark height | Scale |
|---|---|---|
| 160 mm default | 115 mm | 1:3,750 |
| 200 mm | 144 mm | 1:3,000 |

- Slender spire on top
- A very thin spire rises above the roof. Print friendly adapts thin parts like this to your print scale; Full detail keeps it, best printed slowly with good cooling and 0.12 to 0.16 mm layers.
- Stepped setbacks and rounded edges
- The tower narrows in stages, with rounded corners on each step. A larger print keeps these fine steps easier to read.
- One piece with the ground
- The Trump International Hotel and Tower is joined to the ground in the exported file, and the four-side check found no floating parts, so nothing needs gluing.
- Pick the detail for your nozzle
- In the Buildings settings, set Landmark detail to Print friendly to adapt thin parts and small details to the print scale. Full detail keeps every modeled feature, for larger prints or a finer nozzle.
- Colors
- Buildings, roads, water and ground arrive as separate filament slots in the 3MF. The Trump International Hotel and Tower takes the building color.
- File format
- You get a 3MF for Bambu Studio, OrcaSlicer or PrusaSlicer. Any of them can save it as STL if you need one.
