About the Municipal Theatre of Santiago
Described as Santiago's most important stage theater and opera house, the Teatro Municipal is also called the National Opera of Chile. The government gave the municipality a large plot of downtown land in 1848, and in 1853 President Manuel Montt Torres issued a decree for a municipal theater in the fast-growing capital. The design was commissioned from Claudio Brunet des Baines, a Chilean architect of French origin, who gave it a French Neoclassical exterior, and Felipe Charme de l'Isle, a civil engineer who was also French Chilean, was entrusted with building it.
Brunet des Baines died in 1855, and Lucien Hénault and his assistant Manuel Aldunate then supervised the design, aided by Charles Garnier, who designed the Paris National Opera. The theater held its inauguration on September 17, 1857, with Verdi's opera Ernani, staged by an Italian company that was brought in for the occasion. It held 1,800 spectators at the time and featured interior details like a chandelier of teardrop crystal. After a performance on December 8, 1870, a huge fire all but destroyed the building, and Hénault's reconstruction was finished on July 16, 1873.
A devastating earthquake in 1906 stripped away most of the interior, and another serious fire struck in 1927, yet the theater recovered quickly both times. Afterward the main hall held 1,500 people, and the interior became more opulent. It became a National Monument by declaration in 1974, and it was the Chilean venue for both editions of the OTI Festival, in 1978 and 1986.
How it prints
Make this print opens the generator on a 600 m square around the landmark. Buildings print at close to true scale, so the landmark grows with the print size.

- Tall central roof
- A tall pitched roof rises over the stage house, between lower wings. Layers of 0.12–0.16 mm keep the roof ridges crisp, and a bigger print size keeps the levels clearly separate.
- Columned front and fine facade lines
- The front has a row of columns, and the walls carry many fine lines. Print friendly adapts the smallest details to the print scale; Full detail keeps them on larger prints.
- One piece with the ground
- The Municipal Theatre of Santiago is joined to the ground in the exported file, and the four-side check found no floating parts, so nothing needs gluing.
- Pick the detail for your nozzle
- In the Buildings settings, set Landmark detail to Print friendly to adapt thin parts and small details to the print scale. Full detail keeps every modeled feature, for larger prints or a finer nozzle.
- Colors
- Buildings, roads, water and ground arrive as separate filament slots in the 3MF. The Municipal Theatre of Santiago takes the building color.
- File format
- You get a 3MF for Bambu Studio, OrcaSlicer or PrusaSlicer. Any of them can save it as STL if you need one.
