About the Palace of the Parliament

Standing on top of Dealul Spirii in Bucharest, Romania's national capital, the Palace of the Parliament is where the country's Parliament sits. It was first designed in Communist times, and it has also been known as the People's House. The building is 84 m (276 ft) high and reaches 92 m (302 ft) below ground. Its floor area is 365,000 m² (3,930,000 sq ft). It is described as the heaviest building in the world, at about 4,098,500 tonnes, and as the biggest civilian administrative building anywhere.

Chief architect Anca Petrescu designed and supervised the building with a team of about 700 architects. Construction took 13 years, from 1984 to 1997, in modernist Neoclassical forms with socialist realism in mind. Nicolae Ceaușescu, the president of Communist Romania, ordered it, and building it meant demolishing part of the old city center. The building has eight underground levels, and the deepest holds a nuclear bunker.

Both chambers of the Romanian Parliament, the Senate and the Chamber of Deputies, are housed in the palace, along with the Constitutional Court, three museums and an international conference center. Two of the museums are the Museum of the Palace and the National Museum of Contemporary Art. The interior, made up of 23 sections, is known for its ornate decoration, and the palace hosted the 20th NATO summit in 2008.

How it prints

A wide stack of blocks
The palace is a broad stack of stepped, rectangular blocks, so it prints wide and low. Print slowly for clean flat tops, and choose a larger print size to keep the window detail visible.
Tiny window slots
Thin dashes and small window frames mark the facades. They shrink fast at small sizes, so choose a larger print or Full detail, with 0.12–0.16 mm layers.
One piece with the ground
The Palace of the Parliament is joined to the ground in the exported file, and the four-side check found no floating parts, so nothing needs gluing.
Pick the detail for your nozzle
In the Buildings settings, set Landmark detail to Print friendly to adapt thin parts and small details to the print scale. Full detail keeps every modeled feature, for larger prints or a finer nozzle.
Colors
Buildings, roads, water and ground arrive as separate filament slots in the 3MF. The Palace of the Parliament takes the building color.
File format
You get a 3MF for Bambu Studio, OrcaSlicer or PrusaSlicer. Any of them can save it as STL if you need one.
