About Rickwood Field

Rickwood Field is a ballpark in Birmingham, Alabama, standing in the West End district. Industrialist and team owner Rick Woodward built it for the Birmingham Barons in 1910, and it is described as the oldest surviving professional baseball stadium in the United States. The name Rickwood combines Woodward's nickname, Rick, with the start of his surname. The Barons and the Negro leagues' Birmingham Black Barons both called it home, and it is listed in the National Register of Historic Places.

Woodward sought Connie Mack's advice on details such as the field's dimensions, and chose Shibe Park in Philadelphia and Forbes Field in Pittsburgh as his models. Southeastern Engineering Company of Birmingham designed the $75,000 structure, which was finished in the summer of 1910. The park covers 51,000 m2 (12.7 acres), with concrete and steel stands along the basepaths and a tile-roofed cupola behind home plate that gave the announcer and the press a place to work. It was Minor League Baseball's first concrete-and-steel stadium.

Opening day was August 18, 1910, when the Barons beat the visiting Montgomery Climbers 3–2 in front of more than 10,000 fans. A Mission-style entrance building with offices followed in 1928, and in 1936 four steel-frame light towers went up, allowing night games. The Alabama Crimson Tide also played many of its home games there between 1912 and 1927, before Denny Stadium opened in 1929.

How it prints

Make this print opens the generator on a 600 m square around the landmark. Buildings print at close to true scale, so the landmark grows with the print size.

Landmark height and scale at three print sizes
Print size Landmark height Scale

200 mm 8 mm 1:3,000
256 mm 10 mm 1:2,344

Thin legs under the stands
Rows of slim legs hold up the grandstand and are the most delicate parts of the model. Print slowly with good cooling, and Print friendly adapts the thinnest ones to the print scale.
Light towers and a tiny cupola
Tall, lattice-like light towers and a small cupola rise above the stands. Layers of 0.12 to 0.16 mm keep them crisp, and a bigger print size or Full detail keeps more of the lattice.
One piece with the ground
Rickwood Field is joined to the ground in the exported file, and the four-side check found no floating parts, so nothing needs gluing.
Pick the detail for your nozzle
In the Buildings settings, set Landmark detail to Print friendly to adapt thin parts and small details to the print scale. Full detail keeps every modeled feature, for larger prints or a finer nozzle.
Colors
Buildings, roads, water and ground arrive as separate filament slots in the 3MF. Rickwood Field takes the building color.
File format
You get a 3MF for Bambu Studio, OrcaSlicer or PrusaSlicer. Any of them can save it as STL if you need one.

About this model

Rickwood Field is one of more than 2,300 landmark models in Mini Skyline. They are made with AI, and each one is checked from four sides in its real surroundings before release. Everything around it is built from OpenStreetMap and Overture map data. If you would rather print the shape from map data, turn off Landmark models in the Buildings settings.

Common questions

Is there a Rickwood Field STL I can download?

Mini Skyline builds the file for you in your browser and exports 3MF, which every major slicer opens. If you need an STL, open the 3MF in your slicer and export it from there.

How big can I print it?

Any print size from 40 mm across. Rickwood Field grows with the print: about 7 mm tall on the default 160 mm print. For a model larger than your printer bed, Project Mode splits the area into tiles.

Is it free?

Yes. Generation runs in your browser, with no account and nothing behind a paywall.
