About Sahlen Field
Sahlen Field, a baseball park, stands in Buffalo, New York. It began life as Pilot Field and later carried the names Coca-Cola Field, Dunn Tire Park, North AmeriCare Park and Downtown Ballpark. It is home to Buffalo's Bisons, a team in the International League. April 14, 1988 was opening day for the park, which seats up to 16,600. It took over from War Memorial Stadium, the Bisons' home from 1979 to 1987. In 2020 and 2021 the Toronto Blue Jays of MLB used it as a temporary home after the COVID-19 pandemic displaced them.
The world's first retro-classic ballpark, it was designed by HOK Sport, later renamed Populous. Its design draws on the Joseph Ellicott Historic District next door, especially the Ellicott Square Building and the Old Post Office. The exterior was designed in precast concrete, with arched openings for windows on the mezzanine level, rusticated joints and marble panels set into the walls. The field was planned with a Kentucky Bluegrass surface and dimensions meant to mirror pitcher-friendly Royals Stadium. HOK Sport later applied the idea at Oriole Park at Camden Yards, in Major League Baseball.
The site was once home to St. John's Episcopal Church, built between 1846 and 1848 where Washington Street meets Swan Street, which was used until 1893 and demolished in 1906. Hotel Statler, the first hotel of Ellsworth Statler, opened there in 1907 and was later renamed Hotel Buffalo; after that hotel was demolished in 1968, the site became a parking lot. The ballpark cost $42.4 million, mostly public money, including $22.5 million from New York State. On opening day, the Bisons beat the Denver Zephyrs 1–0.
How it prints
Make this print opens the generator on a 600 m square around the landmark. Buildings print at close to true scale, so the landmark grows with the print size.
| Print size | Landmark height | Scale |
|---|---|---|
| 160 mm default | 12 mm | 1:3,750 |
| 200 mm | 14 mm | 1:3,000 |

- Arches and light towers
- The curved outer wall is lined with small arched openings, and slim light towers rise above the stands. Print friendly adapts these small parts to the print scale; Full detail keeps them, best on a larger print, printed slowly with good cooling.
- A stepped horseshoe grandstand
- The grandstand wraps part of the field in many stepped rows. Layers of 0.12–0.16 mm keep those rows crisp.
- One piece with the ground
- Sahlen Field is joined to the ground in the exported file, and the four-side check found no floating parts, so nothing needs gluing.
- Pick the detail for your nozzle
- In the Buildings settings, set Landmark detail to Print friendly to adapt thin parts and small details to the print scale. Full detail keeps every modeled feature, for larger prints or a finer nozzle.
- Colors
- Buildings, roads, water and ground arrive as separate filament slots in the 3MF. Sahlen Field takes the building color.
- File format
- You get a 3MF for Bambu Studio, OrcaSlicer or PrusaSlicer. Any of them can save it as STL if you need one.
About this model
Sahlen Field is one of more than 2,300 landmark models in Mini Skyline. They are made with AI, and each one is checked from four sides in its real surroundings before release. Everything around it is built from OpenStreetMap and Overture map data. If you would rather print the shape from map data, turn off Landmark models in the Buildings settings.
Common questions
Is there a Sahlen Field STL I can download?
Mini Skyline builds the file for you in your browser and exports 3MF, which every major slicer opens. If you need an STL, open the 3MF in your slicer and export it from there.
How big can I print it?
Any print size from 40 mm across. Sahlen Field grows with the print: about 12 mm tall on the default 160 mm print. For a model larger than your printer bed, Project Mode splits the area into tiles.
Is it free?
Yes. Generation runs in your browser, with no account and nothing behind a paywall.
