About the United Center

In Chicago, Illinois, on the Near West Side, the United Center is an indoor arena where the NBA's Chicago Bulls and the NHL's Chicago Blackhawks play. It takes its name from its corporate sponsor, United Airlines. The arena opened in 1994 and replaced Chicago Stadium, which had opened in 1929 across Madison Street. Its first event was WWF SummerSlam, and the Democratic National Convention was held there in 1996 and again in 2024.

The building is 43 m (140 feet) tall and built of concrete and steel, covering 89,000 m2 (960,000 sq ft) on a 19 ha (46-acre) parcel west of the Chicago Loop. Architects first proposed a limestone and granite exterior, but the owners picked cheaper precast concrete. The original construction cost $175 million. Steel panels set at an angle around the upper level bounce sound back into the bowl, a design meant to recreate the roar that made Chicago Stadium famous.

Seating capacity is 19,717 for hockey and 20,917 for basketball, rising to 23,500 for concerts. The two teams jointly own and run the arena through the United Center Joint Venture, a 50/50 partnership. The hardwood floor for Bulls games is laid over the Blackhawks' ice, and the floor comes together like a puzzle and is dismantled whenever the Blackhawks play.

How it prints

Make this print opens the generator on a 600 m square around the landmark. Buildings print at close to true scale, so the landmark grows with the print size.

Landmark height and scale at three print sizes
Print size Landmark height Scale
160 mm default 11 mm 1:3,750
200 mm 14 mm 1:3,000
256 mm 18 mm 1:2,344

A ribbed, curved roof
The roof is a broad curve covered in fine ribs. Print friendly adapts them to the print scale; Full detail keeps every rib, which suits a larger print or a fine nozzle.
Smooth curves need fine layers
The oval walls and domed roof show layer steps on a curve. Layers of 0.12 to 0.16 mm keep the outline smooth.
One piece with the ground
The United Center is joined to the ground in the exported file, and the four-side check found no floating parts, so nothing needs gluing.
Pick the detail for your nozzle
In the Buildings settings, set Landmark detail to Print friendly to adapt thin parts and small details to the print scale. Full detail keeps every modeled feature, for larger prints or a finer nozzle.
Colors
Buildings, roads, water and ground arrive as separate filament slots in the 3MF. The United Center takes the building color.
File format
You get a 3MF for Bambu Studio, OrcaSlicer or PrusaSlicer. Any of them can save it as STL if you need one.

About this model

The United Center is one of more than 2,300 landmark models in Mini Skyline. They are made with AI, and each one is checked from four sides in its real surroundings before release. Everything around it is built from OpenStreetMap and Overture map data. If you would rather print the shape from map data, turn off Landmark models in the Buildings settings.

Common questions

Is there a United Center STL I can download?

Mini Skyline builds the file for you in your browser and exports 3MF, which every major slicer opens. If you need an STL, open the 3MF in your slicer and export it from there.

How big can I print it?

Any print size from 40 mm across. The United Center grows with the print: about 11 mm tall on the default 160 mm print. For a model larger than your printer bed, Project Mode splits the area into tiles.

Is it free?

Yes. Generation runs in your browser, with no account and nothing behind a paywall.
