About the St. Regis Chicago

The St. Regis Chicago is a 101-story multi-use supertall skyscraper that was first called the Wanda Vista Tower. It stands in Chicago's Lakeshore East development in Illinois and was completed in 2020. Jeanne Gang's firm, Studio Gang Architects, designed it, and at completion it was the world's tallest structure designed by a woman. The head of the firm, Gang, is the chief architect, and bKL Architecture was the architect of record.

The Magellan Development Group developed the tower jointly with Wanda Group, a Chinese firm, and had already hired Gang to design Aqua, also in Lakeshore East. The Chicago Plan Commission gave its approval in late 2015, and the groundbreaking was on September 6, 2016. It topped out in April 2019. St. Regis Hotels & Resorts signed on to run the hotel, and in November 2020 the tower took the name St. Regis Chicago.

The building has three interconnected masses of different heights. The east mass rises 47 stories, the middle one 71 and the west one 93, and mechanical space on the remaining floors brings the tallest mass to 101 stories. The superstructure has a buttressed core, and its perimeter columns step inward and outward, which is unusual. Uninhabited "blow-through floors" and six tuned mass damper tanks help counter wind movement. The hotel takes the first 10 floors, with 192 units, and 393 luxury condominiums fill the floors from the 11th upward.

How it prints

Make this print opens the generator on a 600 m square around the landmark. Buildings print at close to true scale, so the landmark grows with the print size.

Landmark height and scale at three print sizes
Print size Landmark height Scale
160 mm default 97 mm 1:3,750
200 mm 121 mm 1:3,000
256 mm 155 mm 1:2,344

Three tall masses side by side
Three masses of different heights stand together, and the tallest one is slender. Printing slowly with good cooling helps tall thin parts hold their shape.
Fine lines on the facade
Many fine horizontal and vertical lines run up the tower. Layers of 0.12 to 0.16 mm keep them crisp, and a bigger print size keeps more of them.
One piece with the ground
The St. Regis Chicago is joined to the ground in the exported file, and the four-side check found no floating parts, so nothing needs gluing.
Pick the detail for your nozzle
In the Buildings settings, set Landmark detail to Print friendly to adapt thin parts and small details to the print scale. Full detail keeps every modeled feature, for larger prints or a finer nozzle.
Colors
Buildings, roads, water and ground arrive as separate filament slots in the 3MF. The St. Regis Chicago takes the building color.
File format
You get a 3MF for Bambu Studio, OrcaSlicer or PrusaSlicer. Any of them can save it as STL if you need one.

About this model

The St. Regis Chicago is one of more than 2,300 landmark models in Mini Skyline. They are made with AI, and each one is checked from four sides in its real surroundings before release. Common questions

Is there a St. Regis Chicago STL I can download?

Mini Skyline builds the file for you in your browser and exports 3MF, which every major slicer opens. If you need an STL, open the 3MF in your slicer and export it from there.

How big can I print it?

Any print size from 40 mm across. The St. Regis Chicago grows with the print: about 97 mm tall on the default 160 mm print. For a model larger than your printer bed, Project Mode splits the area into tiles.

Is it free?

Yes. Generation runs in your browser, with no account and nothing behind a paywall.
