About the Acropolis of Athens

The Acropolis of Athens is an ancient citadel on a flat-topped rock in the city of Athens, Greece, rising to an elevation of 150 m (490 ft), measured from sea level. The summit covers about 3 ha (7.4 acres). People were living on the hill by the 4th millennium BC, and the site holds the remains of several ancient buildings, the best known being the Parthenon. The word acropolis comes from Greek terms for highest point and city, and Greece has many other acropoleis.

In the fifth century BC, Pericles coordinated a building program that produced the Parthenon and the Propylaea, along with the Erechtheion and the small Temple of Athena Nike. The Propylaea is a grand gateway at the hill's western end, with Doric columns of Pentelic marble, and Mnesicles began it in 437 BC. The Erechtheion, built between 421 and 406 BC on very uneven ground, has a porch held up by huge female figures called caryatids.

The Parthenon and other buildings were seriously damaged in 1687, when Venetian forces besieged Athens during the Morean War. The Turkish rulers were storing gunpowder in the Parthenon, and a Venetian bombardment set it off. In ancient times the hill was also known as Cecropia, after Cecrops, the supposed first Athenian king. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

How it prints

Make this print opens the generator on a 600 m square around the landmark. Buildings print at close to true scale, so the landmark grows with the print size.

Landmark height and scale at three print sizes
Print size Landmark height Scale
160 mm default 9 mm 1:3,750
200 mm 11 mm 1:3,000
256 mm 14 mm 1:2,344

A ring of slender columns
The temple is wrapped in rows of thin columns. Print friendly adapts them to the print scale; Full detail keeps every column, which suits a larger print or a fine nozzle.
Open to the sky
The model has no roof, so the inner chamber and its walls are visible from above. A bigger print size shows them more clearly, and layers of 0.12 to 0.16 mm keep the stepped platform crisp.
One piece with the ground
The Acropolis of Athens is joined to the ground in the exported file, and the four-side check found no floating parts, so nothing needs gluing.
Pick the detail for your nozzle
In the Buildings settings, set Landmark detail to Print friendly to adapt thin parts and small details to the print scale. Full detail keeps every modeled feature, for larger prints or a finer nozzle.
Colors
Buildings, roads, water and ground arrive as separate filament slots in the 3MF. The Acropolis of Athens takes the building color.
File format
You get a 3MF for Bambu Studio, OrcaSlicer or PrusaSlicer. Any of them can save it as STL if you need one.
