About CAF Airbase Arizona Hangars

The Arizona Commemorative Air Force Museum, which goes by CAF Airbase Arizona, sits at Falcon Field in Mesa, Arizona, and dates from 1978. It serves as the Commemorative Air Force's 10th unit, and is the base of one of that organization's biggest units. Exhibits cover World War II artifacts and helicopters, together with classic combat aircraft from America and abroad. Work began in 1977, when a handful of people broke ground, and the public was welcomed in 1978.

The Commemorative Air Force goes back to September 6, 1961, when it was founded in Dallas as a nonprofit Texas corporation; its mission is restoring and preserving combat aircraft of the World War II era. The idea took shape in 1957, when Lloyd Nolen and some former service pilots from Texas's Rio Grande Valley put their money into a P-51 Mustang. As for Falcon Field, it was established ahead of the war by pilot John H. "Jack" Connelly and Hollywood producer Leland Hayward, who founded Southwest Airways.

Most aircraft and exhibits are kept inside the hangar, where the gift shop is also located, and a few aircraft that can still fly stay outdoors on the airfield. A few planes represent 1917, but most date from World War II. A B-29 Super Fortress once carried four propellers, and one is displayed in front of the entrance. The Walk of Honor, with bronze plaques, honors Arizonans who contributed to military aviation. In the Mechanics Hangar next door, some aircraft are repaired and restored.

How it prints

Make this print opens the generator on a 600 m square around the landmark. Buildings print at close to true scale, so the landmark grows with the print size.

Landmark height and scale at three print sizes
Print size Landmark height Scale
160 mm default 3 mm 1:3,750
200 mm 4 mm 1:3,000
256 mm 4 mm 1:2,344

Ribbed gabled roof
The hangar's long gabled roof has fine ribbing. A layer height of 0.12–0.16 mm keeps the ribs crisp, and a bigger print size keeps them distinct.
Very low building
The hangar is low and wide, so little rises above the ground. Full detail keeps every modeled feature on larger prints, and Print friendly adapts the small entrance details to the print scale.
One piece with the ground
CAF Airbase Arizona Hangars is joined to the ground in the exported file, and the four-side check found no floating parts, so nothing needs gluing.
Pick the detail for your nozzle
In the Buildings settings, set Landmark detail to Print friendly to adapt thin parts and small details to the print scale. Full detail keeps every modeled feature, for larger prints or a finer nozzle.
Colors
Buildings, roads, water and ground arrive as separate filament slots in the 3MF. CAF Airbase Arizona Hangars takes the building color.
File format
You get a 3MF for Bambu Studio, OrcaSlicer or PrusaSlicer. Any of them can save it as STL if you need one.
