About Egeskov Castle

Egeskov Castle lies near Kværndrup, on the southern part of the island of Funen in Denmark, and is described as the country's best preserved Renaissance water castle. The first mention of Egeskov dates to 1405, and Frands Brockenhuus had the castle structure erected in 1554. It rests on oaken piles in a small lake no deeper than 5 meters (16 ft), and originally the only way in was a drawbridge. According to legend, the foundation consumed an entire forest of oak trees, which is why the name Egeskov means oak forest.

The exterior is Late Gothic in style, while the original elements inside already show Renaissance design. It consists of two long buildings linked by a thick double wall, so defenders could give up one house and carry on fighting from the other. That wall is more than one meter thick and holds secret staircases and a well. Two round corner towers let defenders strike at an enemy's flanks, and arrow slits, scalding holes and artillery ports add further medieval defenses. The bricks are of an oversized medieval kind that is sometimes called "monks bricks".

An old park of 20 hectares (49 acres) surrounds the castle and is split into a number of gardens. One has topiary figures, fountains and a gravel path, and it is called the renaissance garden. Another, the fuchsia garden, holds 104 different species and is among the largest in Europe. Four hedge mazes also stand among the gardens. Ladegården, a thatched half-timbered building, belongs to the estate and is part of the museum.

How it prints

Make this print opens the generator on a 600 m square around the landmark. Buildings print at close to true scale, so the landmark grows with the print size.

Landmark height and scale at three print sizes

Conical tower roofs and gables
Round towers end in pointed conical roofs, and tall gables rise along the roofline. Print friendly adapts the thinnest tips to the print scale; Full detail and a larger print keep more of them.
Many small windows
Rows of small windows cover the walls. Layers of 0.12–0.16 mm keep them crisp, and a larger print size keeps them from blurring.
One piece with the ground
Egeskov Castle is joined to the ground in the exported file, and the four-side check found no floating parts, so nothing needs gluing.
Pick the detail for your nozzle
In the Buildings settings, set Landmark detail to Print friendly to adapt thin parts and small details to the print scale. Full detail keeps every modeled feature, for larger prints or a finer nozzle.
Colors
Buildings, roads, water and ground arrive as separate filament slots in the 3MF. Egeskov Castle takes the building color.
File format
You get a 3MF for Bambu Studio, OrcaSlicer or PrusaSlicer. Any of them can save it as STL if you need one.

About this model

Egeskov Castle is one of more than 2,300 landmark models in Mini Skyline. They are made with AI, and each one is checked from four sides in its real surroundings before release. Everything around it is built from OpenStreetMap and Overture map data. If you would rather print the shape from map data, turn off Landmark models in the Buildings settings.

Common questions

Is there an Egeskov Castle STL I can download?

Mini Skyline builds the file for you in your browser and exports 3MF, which every major slicer opens. If you need an STL, open the 3MF in your slicer and export it from there.

How big can I print it?

Any print size from 40 mm across. Egeskov Castle grows with the print: about 10 mm tall on the default 160 mm print. For a model larger than your printer bed, Project Mode splits the area into tiles.

Is it free?

Yes. Generation runs in your browser, with no account and nothing behind a paywall.
