About Guardian Angel Cathedral
Guardian Angel Cathedral, a Catholic cathedral, stands in Winchester, Nevada, in the Las Vegas Valley, just off the Las Vegas Strip and north of the two hotels Wynn and Encore. The Archdiocese of Las Vegas has its seat here. Until the Las Vegas diocese came into being in 1995, it belonged to the Diocese of Reno as a parish.
In 1955 St. Viator Church went up on the old city dump, but the ground proved unstable, and officials condemned the church; it was torn down six months after opening. The Rev. Richard Crowley asked Moe Dalitz for land, and in 1961 Dalitz donated a parcel near the Desert Inn. He asked the Los Angeles architect Paul R. Williams to design the new church, and the shrine opened its doors on October 2, 1963. Bishop Norman McFarland picked the shrine as a co-cathedral in 1977, and it kept its cathedral status when the diocese was divided in 1995. A $1.3 million renovation followed that year.
Paul R. Williams gave the church an A-frame design. A large mosaic by the Los Angeles artist Edith Piczek above the main entrance depicts the Guardian Angel alongside Penance, Prayer and Peace. The stained glass windows of the Stations of the Cross, by her sister Isabel Piczek, fill 12 triangular niches cutting through the A-frame. The cathedral has seating for 1,100 people.
How it prints
Make this print opens the generator on a 600 m square around the landmark. Buildings print at close to true scale, so the landmark grows with the print size.

- A steep, ridged A-frame
- The tall triangular roof is covered in many thin ridges and slats. Layers of 0.12 to 0.16 mm keep them crisp, and a larger print keeps more of them.
- Small octagonal blocks
- Small octagonal blocks sit around the base of the roof. Print friendly adapts their fine door and window marks to the print scale; Full detail keeps them.
- One piece with the ground
- Guardian Angel Cathedral is joined to the ground in the exported file, and the four-side check found no floating parts, so nothing needs gluing.
- Pick the detail for your nozzle
- In the Buildings settings, set Landmark detail to Print friendly to adapt thin parts and small details to the print scale. Full detail keeps every modeled feature, for larger prints or a finer nozzle.
- Colors
- Buildings, roads, water and ground arrive as separate filament slots in the 3MF. Guardian Angel Cathedral takes the building color.
- File format
- You get a 3MF for Bambu Studio, OrcaSlicer or PrusaSlicer. Any of them can save it as STL if you need one.
