About Hampton Court Palace

Hampton Court Palace is a royal palace with Grade I listed status. It lies 19 km (12 miles) southwest of central London, upstream on the River Thames, in the borough of Richmond upon Thames. Work started in 1514 for Cardinal Thomas Wolsey, who was Archbishop of York and Henry VIII's chief minister. In 1529, as he lost the king's favor, he handed the palace to Henry. It became one of Henry's favorite residences, and he soon enlarged it to house his large retinue of courtiers.

Henry added a Great Hall and the Royal Tennis Court between 1532 and 1535; the hall was the final medieval great hall built for England's monarchs. In 1540 the inner gatehouse gained an astronomical clock that still works; it shows the phases of the moon and high water at London Bridge, among other things. William III's big rebuilding scheme of the early 1690s, meant to rival the Palace of Versailles, swept away much of the Tudor palace. When his work stopped in 1703, the palace was left in two contrasting styles, domestic Tudor and Baroque. The use of pink brick and a loose symmetry of low wings tie them together.

The last monarch to live there was George II. An independent charity, Historic Royal Palaces, looks after the palace and its grounds and keeps them open to visitors. Artworks from the Royal Collection are on display. Garden features include a grape vine that was the world's largest in 2005, a royal tennis court and the Hampton Court Maze. The Home Park hosts the annual Hampton Court Palace Festival, along with a garden festival.

How it prints

Make this print opens the generator on a 600 m square around the landmark. Buildings print at close to true scale, so the landmark grows with the print size.

Landmark height and scale at three print sizes
Print size Landmark height Scale

200 mm 12 mm 1:3,000
256 mm 16 mm 1:2,344

Clusters of slim chimneys
Small chimney stacks stand along the rooftops. Print friendly adapts these slight parts to the print scale, while Full detail keeps every stack, which suits a larger print or a fine nozzle.
Low wings around courtyards
The palace is a sprawl of low wings, gatehouses and enclosed courtyards. A bigger print size keeps the courtyards open, and layers of 0.12 to 0.16 mm keep the rooflines clean.
One piece with the ground
Hampton Court Palace is joined to the ground in the exported file, and the four-side check found no floating parts, so nothing needs gluing.
Pick the detail for your nozzle
In the Buildings settings, set Landmark detail to Print friendly to adapt thin parts and small details to the print scale. Full detail keeps every modeled feature, for larger prints or a finer nozzle.
Colors
Buildings, roads, water and ground arrive as separate filament slots in the 3MF. Hampton Court Palace takes the building color.
File format
You get a 3MF for Bambu Studio, OrcaSlicer or PrusaSlicer. Any of them can save it as STL if you need one.
