About King Power Mahanakhon

King Power Mahanakhon, which used to be named MahaNakhon, is a skyscraper with mixed uses. It stands in the central business district of Bangkok, Thailand, in the Silom/Sathon area. It is a square tower with glass curtain walls, and a spiral band of cuboid cuts runs up one side. This "pixelated" ribbon peels back the outer layer to reveal an inner layer, which forms balconies that look out over the city. The tower holds a hotel, retail space and residences, plus a rooftop observation deck.

On May 4, 2016, the CTBUH named it Thailand's tallest building, at 314.2 meters (1,031 ft) and 77 floors. It held that record only until 2018, when the Magnolias Waterfront Residences at ICONSIAM surpassed it at 317 meters. Ole Scheeren, a German architect who had been a partner at Office for Metropolitan Architecture, was part of the development team with Thai company Pace Development.

The groundbreaking ceremony took place on June 20, 2011. The tower was topped off at 314 meters in April 2015 and completed in 2016. After prices changed during construction, the total project value came to 21 billion baht (US$620 million). King Power group bought the building from PACE Development in April 2018, and the name changed. Bangkok's ceremonial name includes Mahanakhon, meaning "large (or great) city".

How it prints

Make this print opens the generator on a 600 m square around the landmark. Buildings print at close to true scale, so the landmark grows with the print size.

Landmark height and scale at three print sizes
Print size Landmark height Scale
160 mm default 85 mm 1:3,750
200 mm 106 mm 1:3,000
256 mm 135 mm 1:2,344

A spiral of small boxes
The notched spiral on the sides is built from many small box shapes. Print friendly adapts them to the print scale; Full detail keeps every one, which suits a larger print or a fine nozzle.
A tall, slim shaft
The tower is tall and narrow compared with its footprint. Printing slowly with good cooling, and layers of 0.12 to 0.16 mm, helps the notched sides come out clean.
One piece with the ground
King Power Mahanakhon is joined to the ground in the exported file, and the four-side check found no floating parts, so nothing needs gluing.
Pick the detail for your nozzle
In the Buildings settings, set Landmark detail to Print friendly to adapt thin parts and small details to the print scale. Full detail keeps every modeled feature, for larger prints or a finer nozzle.
Colors
Buildings, roads, water and ground arrive as separate filament slots in the 3MF. King Power Mahanakhon takes the building color.
File format
You get a 3MF for Bambu Studio, OrcaSlicer or PrusaSlicer. Any of them can save it as STL if you need one.

Common questions

Is there a King Power Mahanakhon STL I can download?

Mini Skyline builds the file for you in your browser and exports 3MF, which every major slicer opens. If you need an STL, open the 3MF in your slicer and export it from there.

How big can I print it?

Any print size from 40 mm across. King Power Mahanakhon grows with the print: about 85 mm tall on the default 160 mm print. For a model larger than your printer bed, Project Mode splits the area into tiles.

Is it free?

Yes. Generation runs in your browser, with no account and nothing behind a paywall.
