About the Mohammad Al-Amin Mosque

The Mohammad Al-Amin Mosque is a 72 m high Sunni mosque in downtown Beirut, Lebanon, nicknamed the Blue Mosque. Its neighbor is the Maronite Cathedral of Saint George, and it was inaugurated in 2008. A 19th-century zawiya, named for Sheikh Abu Nasr al-Yafi, once stood on the site.

Soon after the Lebanon Civil War, and after a gift from Rafic Hariri, the late prime minister, the foundation was laid in November 2002. Archaeologists uncovered a section of the main east–west Roman street, the Decumanus Maximus, with paving and columns. Concrete pouring started in 2003, and by 2005 the mosque itself was going up.

Azmi Fakhoury designed it in a style similar to Ottoman Turk architecture, with room for up to 6,400 worshippers. It has five domes, all made of light blue tiles. Inside are patterned ceilings and a dome circle, and an ornament that looks like a chandelier hangs in front of the mihrab.

How it prints

Make this print opens the generator on a 600 m square around the landmark. Buildings print at close to true scale, so the landmark grows with the print size.

Landmark height and scale at three print sizes
Print size Landmark height Scale
160 mm default 21 mm 1:3,750
200 mm 26 mm 1:3,000
256 mm 34 mm 1:2,344

Four slender minarets
The tall, thin minarets are the most fragile parts. Print slowly with good cooling, and choose a bigger print size or 0.12–0.16 mm layers to keep their tips sharp.
A cluster of domes
One large dome sits among smaller domes over a block with tall arched windows. Print friendly adapts the thin arches to your scale; Full detail suits a large print.
One piece with the ground
The Mohammad Al-Amin Mosque is joined to the ground in the exported file, and the four-side check found no floating parts, so nothing needs gluing.
Pick the detail for your nozzle
In the Buildings settings, set Landmark detail to Print friendly to adapt thin parts and small details to the print scale. Full detail keeps every modeled feature, for larger prints or a finer nozzle.
Colors
Buildings, roads, water and ground arrive as separate filament slots in the 3MF. The Mohammad Al-Amin Mosque takes the building color.
File format
You get a 3MF for Bambu Studio, OrcaSlicer or PrusaSlicer. Any of them can save it as STL if you need one.
