Make this print opens the generator on a 600 m square around the landmark. Buildings print at close to true scale, so the landmark grows with the print size.

  1. Fine details at small sizes

A control tower is a small structure, so fine details are easy to lose on a small print. Use Full detail with a larger print size, and a layer height of 0.12–0.16 mm, to keep them crisp.

  2. One piece with the ground

The North Weald Airfield control tower is joined to the ground in the exported file, and the four-side check found no floating parts, so nothing needs gluing.

  3. Pick the detail for your nozzle

In the Buildings settings, set Landmark detail to Print friendly to adapt thin parts and small details to the print scale. Full detail keeps every modeled feature, for larger prints or a finer nozzle.

  4. Colors

Buildings, roads, water and ground arrive as separate filament slots in the 3MF. The North Weald Airfield control tower takes the building color.

  5. File format

You get a 3MF for Bambu Studio, OrcaSlicer or PrusaSlicer. Any of them can save it as STL if you need one.

About the North Weald Airfield control tower

North Weald Airfield, in the Epping Forest area of Essex, England, is home to this control tower. The airfield lies in the parish of North Weald Bassett. The tower dates from 1952 and belongs to the early Cold War push to modernize the airfield. As a Grade II listed building, it is among only seven control towers of its type ever built, and it is regarded as one of the best that survive.

The Royal Flying Corps set up the aerodrome in the summer of 1916, in the First World War, and it became part of the Royal Air Force on April 1, 1918. In the Battle of Britain it served as an important fighter station, and Hawker Hurricanes from North Weald were in action over the beaches at Dunkirk. The RAF left the airfield entirely in 1964, and Epping Forest District Council bought it in 1979.

The site is an operational general aviation aerodrome with flight training. Vintage and veteran aircraft are based there, among them the Supermarine Spitfire and the North American P-51 Mustang. The North Weald Airfield Museum focuses on the people who worked at the airfield in both world wars, and a large Saturday market is held on the field.

About this model

The North Weald Airfield control tower is one of more than 5,500 landmark models in Mini Skyline.
