About Old Parliament House, Canberra

Old Parliament House, once called the Provisional Parliament House, housed the Parliament of Australia between 1927 and 1988. It began operating on May 9, 1927, after Parliament moved from Melbourne to Canberra, the new capital. In 1988, the Commonwealth Parliament moved into a new building, Parliament House on Capital Hill. A museum of the building and of Australian democracy more broadly has occupied it since 2009, under the name Museum of Australian Democracy (MoAD). It hosts temporary exhibitions, lectures, functions and conferences as well.

Seen across Lake Burley Griffin, it sits in front of Parliament House and lines up with the Australian War Memorial. John Smith Murdoch designed it with a team of assistants working in the Department of Works and Railways. It was meant to be neither temporary nor permanent, a provisional building for Parliament's needs for at most 50 years. The design reached beyond the walls to its gardens, décor and furnishings, and the style is Simplified Classical, commonly used for Australian government buildings in Canberra in the 1920s and 1930s.

Murdoch's design is a brick building of three stories, its principal floor on the middle level, built of Canberra clay brick and originally rendered in white concrete, since painted. The front façade shows only two stories and has strong horizontal lines, with taller masses behind it marking the two debating chambers and a lower mass between them where King's Hall is located. The building is 18.5 m (61 ft) high at the roof of the chambers, excluding the flagpole. Extensions turned its original H shape into a large rectangle with four courtyards.

Courtyards and window rows
The building wraps around open courtyards and has many rows of small windows. Print friendly adapts the finest of them to your print scale; Full detail keeps them, best on a larger print with a fine nozzle.
Flagpole and rooftop blocks
A thin flagpole and small blocks rise from the roofline. Printing slowly helps the thin pole, and Print friendly adapts the smallest rooftop details to your print scale.
One piece with the ground
Old Parliament House, Canberra is joined to the ground in the exported file, and the four-side check found no floating parts, so nothing needs gluing.
Pick the detail for your nozzle
In the Buildings settings, set Landmark detail to Print friendly to adapt thin parts and small details to the print scale. Full detail keeps every modeled feature, for larger prints or a finer nozzle.
Colors
Buildings, roads, water and ground arrive as separate filament slots in the 3MF. Old Parliament House, Canberra takes the building color.
