11 m of Penfield Reef Light, 3 mm on your shelf
Make this print opens the generator on a 600 m square around the landmark. Buildings print at close to true scale, so the landmark grows with the print size.
- Lantern, railing and mast
The octagonal lantern has a thin railing and a slim mast on top. Print friendly adapts them to the print scale; Full detail keeps them on a larger print. Print slowly so the tip cools.
- Small and surrounded by water
This is a compact model, so a bigger print size helps the roof windows and wall courses show. A layer height of 0.12-0.16 mm keeps the stone courses crisp.
- One piece with the ground
Penfield Reef Light is joined to the ground in the exported file, and the four-side check found no floating parts, so nothing needs gluing.
- Pick the detail for your nozzle
In the Buildings settings, set Landmark detail to Print friendly to adapt thin parts and small details to the print scale. Full detail keeps every modeled feature, for larger prints or a finer nozzle.
- Colors
Buildings, roads, water and ground arrive as separate filament slots in the 3MF. Penfield Reef Light takes the building color.
- File format
You get a 3MF for Bambu Studio, OrcaSlicer or PrusaSlicer. Any of them can save it as STL if you need one.
About Penfield Reef Light
Penfield Reef Light stands at one end of Penfield Reef, where Long Island Sound meets the entrance to Black Rock Harbor, off Fairfield, Connecticut. It lies roughly 1.1 miles (1.8 km) from Fairfield Beach. The reef has a reputation as one of the most treacherous spots in the western part of the Sound. Built in 1874, the lighthouse ranks among the last offshore masonry lights.
This is a Second Empire lighthouse: a wood frame tower grows out of the keeper's dwelling. The dwelling is a 1-1/2 story building under a mansard roof, with the tower set into the roof framing. Its walls are granite ashlar over a brick backing and heavy timber framing, strengthened by iron plates anchored into the granite. A cylindrical caisson of granite blocks with a concrete core carries the structure.
A local legend says the light is haunted. In 1916, keeper Frederick A. Jordan drowned when his dory capsized while he was rowing to the mainland for Christmas. His successor wrote in the log that the ghost showed up two weeks later. In 1969 the Coast Guard planned a steel tower in its place, but public protest halted the plan, and by 1971 the light was automated. The National Register of Historic Places listed it in 1990.
