173 m of Ponte City, 52 mm on your shelf
Make this print opens the generator on a 600 m square around the landmark. Buildings print at close to true scale, so the landmark grows with the print size.
- Open core and floor bands
The tower is a ring with an open center from base to roof. Print friendly adapts the thin floor bands and window strips; Full detail keeps them for a large print.
- Rooftop sign and podium fins
The sign drum and the podium's upright fins are small at print scale. Print slowly with good cooling, and use 0.12–0.16 mm layers to keep the tall shaft and fine edges crisp.
- One piece with the ground
Ponte City is joined to the ground in the exported file, and the four-side check found no floating parts, so nothing needs gluing.
- Pick the detail for your nozzle
In the Buildings settings, set Landmark detail to Print friendly to adapt thin parts and small details to the print scale. Full detail keeps every modeled feature, for larger prints or a finer nozzle.
- Colors
Buildings, roads, water and ground arrive as separate filament slots in the 3MF. Ponte City takes the building color.
- File format
You get a 3MF for Bambu Studio, OrcaSlicer or PrusaSlicer. Any of them can save it as STL if you need one.
About Ponte City
Ponte City is a cylindrical residential tower in Johannesburg's Berea district, beside Hillbrow. Completed in 1975, it rises 173 m (567.6 ft) and has 55 stories, with an open center that brings extra light into the apartments. For 48 years it was Africa's tallest residential skyscraper, until the Building D01 tower in the New Administrative Capital of Egypt passed it in 2023.
Mannie Feldman led the design with Rodney Grosskopff and Manfred Hermer. Grosskopff later recalled choosing a circular plan; it was Africa's first cylindrical skyscraper. The design drew on Bertrand Goldberg's Marina City in Chicago, and the hollow interior, open to the sky, answered a Johannesburg rule that kitchens and bathrooms have a window.
When it opened, Ponte City was a desirable address with views over Johannesburg, but crime and poor maintenance damaged its reputation in the late 1980s and 1990s. It has since been refurbished. The largest neon sign in the Southern Hemisphere sits on its roof; it advertised Coca-Cola before 2000 and later Vodacom.
About this model
Ponte City is one of more than 4,900 landmark models in Mini Skyline. They are made with AI, and each one is checked from four sides in its real surroundings before release. Everything around it is built from OpenStreetMap and Overture map data. If you would rather print the shape from map data, turn off Landmark models in the Buildings settings.
