About the Sandra Day O'Connor House
The house named for Sandra Day O'Connor is her historic home. She was a former Supreme Court Justice of the United States who came from Arizona. The house began in Paradise Valley, Arizona. From 2007, over two years, it was taken apart and relocated to Tempe, where it became the Sandra Day O'Connor Institute's home. A National Register of Historic Places listing followed in 2019.
The house was built in 1957 from adobe brick made of mud gathered at the nearby Salt River. It has one story, three bedrooms and floor-to-ceiling windows, and covers roughly 1,700 sq ft (160 m2). Its mid-century modern design shows significant influences of Frank Lloyd Wright, such as large overhangs that block the desert sun, and its long, narrow form echoes the California ranch style that Cliff May popularized. The interior has exposed adobe brick and red concrete floors, along with wood beams left exposed. O'Connor and her husband set some of the bricks themselves during building and coated them with skim milk as a preservative.
A later owner planned to demolish the home to build a larger residence. A preservation effort raised $2 million in private money, and the house came apart starting in 2007. Workers took out every adobe brick, numbered each one and stacked them for the trip. In May 2008 the Tempe City Council unanimously allocated land in Papago Park, and reconstruction finished in 2009. The house stands in the Carl Hayden Campus for Sustainability, next to the Arizona Historical Society Museum, overlooking Tempe and the Salt River.
How it prints
Make this print opens the generator on a 600 m square around the landmark. Buildings print at close to true scale, so the landmark grows with the print size.
| Print size | Landmark height | Scale |
|---|---|---|
| 160 mm default | 1 mm | 1:3,750 |
| 200 mm | 2 mm | 1:3,000 |

- Wide roof overhangs
- The roofs project well past the walls. Print friendly adapts thin overhangs like these to the print scale, and a larger print keeps their edges clear.
- A small, low house
- The house is long and low, so the model is tiny. A larger print and a layer height of 0.12–0.16 mm keep the roof angles crisp.
- One piece with the ground
- The Sandra Day O'Connor House is joined to the ground in the exported file, and the four-side check found no floating parts, so nothing needs gluing.
- Pick the detail for your nozzle
- In the Buildings settings, set Landmark detail to Print friendly to adapt thin parts and small details to the print scale. Full detail keeps every modeled feature, for larger prints or a finer nozzle.
- Colors
- Buildings, roads, water and ground arrive as separate filament slots in the 3MF. The Sandra Day O'Connor House takes the building color.
- File format
- You get a 3MF for Bambu Studio, OrcaSlicer or PrusaSlicer. Any of them can save it as STL if you need one.

Common questions
Is there a Sandra Day O'Connor House STL I can download?
Mini Skyline builds the file for you in your browser and exports 3MF, which every major slicer opens. If you need an STL, open the 3MF in your slicer and export it from there.
How big can I print it?
Any print size from 40 mm across. The Sandra Day O'Connor House grows with the print: about 1 mm tall on the default 160 mm print. For a model larger than your printer bed, Project Mode splits the area into tiles.
Is it free?
