About St John's Cathedral (Brisbane)

St John's Cathedral is the seat of Brisbane's Anglican diocese, and it is also the metropolitan cathedral for Queensland's ecclesiastical province, in Australia. Its dedication is to St John the Evangelist. The church occupies a site on Ann Street, in Brisbane's central business district. An earlier pro-cathedral on part of Queens Gardens on William Street, in use from 1854 to 1904, came before it. Only All Saints church on Wickham Terrace is older among Brisbane's Anglican churches, which makes the cathedral the second oldest. It appears on the Queensland Heritage Register.

After John Loughborough Pearson died in November 1897, his son Frank Loughborough Pearson was entrusted with the design, and the Duke of Cornwall and York laid the foundation stone on May 22, 1901. Construction ran in three stages. The first began in 1906 and lasted four years, the second began in 1965 and ran four more, and the third lasted from 1989 to 2009. That last stage added the south west porch, the west front, the last bay of the nave, and the north, south and central towers. Its A$40 million cost was raised through donations, bequests and government grants. The finished cathedral was reconsecrated on October 29, 2009.

John Loughborough Pearson designed the cathedral in Gothic Revival style, though French Gothic more clearly inspires its architecture. The external walls use Brisbane tuff stone, laid at random, in brown, pink and mauve, and the interior is mostly dressed sandstone from Helidon. Its four manual pipe organ is the largest cathedral organ in Australia. It is described as unique in Australia, because clergy, stonemasons and architects worked together on completing the design for almost 100 years.

How it prints

Many pointed spires
Slender spires rise from the towers and corner turrets. Print friendly adapts the thinnest tips to the print scale; Full detail and a larger print keep more. Print slowly with good cooling.
Tall windows and buttresses
Tall pointed windows and buttresses cover the walls. Layers of 0.12–0.16 mm keep them crisp, and a larger print size keeps them distinct.
One piece with the ground
St John's Cathedral (Brisbane) is joined to the ground in the exported file, and the four-side check found no floating parts, so nothing needs gluing.
Pick the detail for your nozzle
In the Buildings settings, set Landmark detail to Print friendly to adapt thin parts and small details to the print scale. Full detail keeps every modeled feature, for larger prints or a finer nozzle.
Colors
Buildings, roads, water and ground arrive as separate filament slots in the 3MF. St John's Cathedral (Brisbane) takes the building color.
File format
You get a 3MF for Bambu Studio, OrcaSlicer or PrusaSlicer. Any of them can save it as STL if you need one.
