141 m of the Tribune Tower, 39 mm on your shelf
Make this print opens the generator on a 600 m square around the landmark. Buildings print at close to true scale, so the landmark grows with the print size.
- A tall, narrow shaft
The tower is one slim column from base to top, so the print runs a long way up thin layers. Slow it down and keep cooling on as it climbs.
- Sheer walls in one piece
The walls are large, mostly flat faces, where layer lines show. Layers of 0.12–0.16 mm and a slightly slower speed keep them even.
- One piece with the ground
The Tribune Tower is joined to the ground in the exported file, and the four-side check found no floating parts, so nothing needs gluing.
- Pick the detail for your nozzle
In the Buildings settings, set Landmark detail to Print friendly to adapt thin parts and small details to the print scale. Full detail keeps every modeled feature, for larger prints or a finer nozzle.
- Colors
Buildings, roads, water and ground arrive as separate filament slots in the 3MF. The Tribune Tower takes the building color.
- File format
You get a 3MF for Bambu Studio, OrcaSlicer or PrusaSlicer. Any of them can save it as STL if you need one.
About the Tribune Tower
Tribune Tower is a neo-Gothic skyscraper of 36 floors on North Michigan Avenue in Chicago, Illinois, at number 435. It rises 141 m (462 ft) and was built for the Chicago Tribune's owner Robert R. McCormick. In 1922 the newspaper ran an international competition for its new headquarters, offering $100,000 in prize money and $50,000 for first place, and more than 260 entries came in. The winner was a neo-Gothic scheme by John Mead Howells and Raymond Hood, both of New York, and the building was finished in 1925.
Its crown follows the Tour de beurre, the butter tower of Rouen Cathedral in France: a crown-shaped top without a spire, ringed by buttresses that show up in the night lighting. The sculptor Rene Paul Chambellan made the ornament, which includes gargoyles and a frog. Two carvings near the entrance, of Robin Hood and of a howling dog, commemorate the two architects. Inside, quotations on liberty and a free press are carved into the lobby walls, which make it a hall of inscriptions.
Chicago Tribune correspondents brought back rocks and bricks from historic sites, and 149 stones and rocks are set into the lower walls, from places in each of the 50 states and on every continent. Later additions include tiles taken from the Sydney Opera House and steel salvaged from the World Trade Center. The Tribune moved out in June 2018 and the tower was converted into residences; it is a Chicago Landmark and also counts as a contributing property in the Michigan–Wacker Historic District.
