About Winchester Cathedral

Winchester Cathedral stands in the city of Winchester, England, and ranks among the larger cathedrals of its type in Northern Europe. The bishop of Winchester has his seat here, and the cathedral is the mother church of the ancient Diocese of Winchester. The dean of Winchester heads the dean and chapter that manage it.

The present cathedral dates from construction between 1079 and 1532. Its dedication is shared among many saints, with Swithun the most notable. The nave is very long and very wide and is in the Perpendicular Gothic style, while the transepts and tower are Norman. At 170 m (558 ft) overall, no other medieval cathedral in the world is longer. By floor area, 4,968 square meters (53,480 square feet), it ranks sixth in the UK: only five cathedrals, including Liverpool, St Paul's and York, cover more ground.

Bishop Walkelin began a huge new Norman cathedral in 1079, just south of the earlier Old and New Minsters, and the east end was finished in 1093, when it was consecrated. Bishop Edington took down the Norman west front in 1346 and started a Perpendicular Gothic one with a huge west window. William of Wykeham and William Wynford later remodeled the Norman nave in the same style. Parliamentarian soldiers destroyed most of the Great West Window in December 1642, and townspeople reassembled it as a mosaic. The north nave aisle is the burial place of Jane Austen, who was interred in 1817.

How it prints

Make this print opens the generator on a 600 m square around the landmark. Buildings print at close to true scale, so the landmark grows with the print size.

Landmark height and scale at three print sizes
Print size Landmark height Scale

200 mm 16 mm 1:3,000

Tall windows and pinnacles
The long nave and transepts carry many tall pointed windows and slim pinnacles. Print friendly adapts these small features to the print scale; Full detail keeps them, which suits a larger print. Layers of 0.12 to 0.16 mm keep the edges crisp.
Slim tips at the ends
A few slim pinnacles rise at the west end, and small turrets sit at the east end. A bigger print size keeps them, and printing slowly helps the narrow tips form cleanly.
One piece with the ground
Winchester Cathedral is joined to the ground in the exported file, and the four-side check found no floating parts, so nothing needs gluing.
Pick the detail for your nozzle
In the Buildings settings, set Landmark detail to Print friendly to adapt thin parts and small details to the print scale. Full detail keeps every modeled feature, for larger prints or a finer nozzle.
Colors
Buildings, roads, water and ground arrive as separate filament slots in the 3MF. Winchester Cathedral takes the building color.
File format
You get a 3MF for Bambu Studio, OrcaSlicer or PrusaSlicer. Any of them can save it as STL if you need one.

About this model

Common questions

Is there a Winchester Cathedral STL I can download?

Mini Skyline builds the file for you in your browser and exports 3MF, which every major slicer opens. If you need an STL, open the 3MF in your slicer and export it from there.

How big can I print it?

Any print size from 40 mm across. Winchester Cathedral grows with the print: about 13 mm tall on the default 160 mm print. For a model larger than your printer bed, Project Mode splits the area into tiles.

Is it free?

Yes. Generation runs in your browser, with no account and nothing behind a paywall.
