Make this print opens the generator on a 600 m square around the landmark. Buildings print at close to true scale, so the landmark grows with the print size.

  1. Shallow dome and screen

The roof is a shallow spherical cap over a ring of closely spaced pylons and a concrete screen. Print friendly groups the small screen openings; Full detail keeps the per-bay rhythm at larger sizes.

  2. Recessed entrances

Glazed entrance sectors interrupt the screen and sit set back behind the pylons. Print large enough that those recesses stay open rather than filling in.

  3. One piece with the ground

The Astrodome is joined to the ground in the exported file, and the four-side check found no floating parts, so nothing needs gluing.

  4. Pick the detail for your nozzle

In the Buildings settings, set Landmark detail to Print friendly to adapt thin parts and small details to the print scale. Full detail keeps every modeled feature, for larger prints or a finer nozzle.

  5. Colors

Buildings, roads, water and ground arrive as separate filament slots in the 3MF. The Astrodome takes the building color.

  6. File format

You get a 3MF for Bambu Studio, OrcaSlicer or PrusaSlicer. Any of them can save it as STL if you need one.

About the Astrodome

The Astrodome, officially called the Reliant Astrodome, is an enclosed sports stadium in Houston, Texas. It was the first stadium built for several sports under a roof, and about 50,000 spectators could sit inside. Roy Hofheinz, who had been Houston's mayor and was known for pioneering modern stadiums, financed and helped develop the project. Work on it started in 1963, more than twelve months after the groundbreaking ceremony, and the venue opened in 1965.

Baseball's Houston Astros played there from 1965 through 1999, while the Houston Oilers of the AFL and NFL used it from 1968 through 1996. The Houston Rockets appeared part-time between 1971 and 1975, and the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo made it its main venue from 1966 through 2002. At its opening it carried the Harris County Domed Stadium name and the nickname "Eighth Wonder of the World".

In 1966 it became the first major sports venue with artificial turf, a surface that took the name AstroTurf. Its animated scoreboard, the Astrolite, was another first. The building entered the National Register of Historic Places in 2014, a listing that blocked full demolition after parts came down in 2013.

About this model

The Astrodome is one of more than 4,900 landmark models in Mini Skyline. They are made with AI, and each one is checked from four sides in its real surroundings before release. Everything around it is built from OpenStreetMap and Overture map data. If you would rather print the shape from map data, turn off Landmark models in the Buildings settings.
