- Twin towers and pierced crowns
The west front has two equal square towers with slit openings and pierced balustrades. Use Print friendly detail at small sizes, or print larger, so those openings stay open.

About the Abbey of Sainte-Trinité, Caen
The Abbey of Sainte-Trinité, also called the Abbaye aux Dames, is a former convent of Benedictine nuns in Caen, Normandy, France. Its buildings include the Church of Sainte-Trinité, and the former abbey houses the Regional Council of Normandy. The church is an example of Romanesque architecture.
The husband and wife William the Conqueror and Matilda of Flanders established it in the late 11th century as a nunnery for Benedictine women. Work began in 1062 and was completed in 1130. Matilda died in 1083 and was buried beneath a black marble slab in the choir.
The Hundred Years' War destroyed the original spires, which were replaced by plainer balustrades in the early eighteenth century. The abbey was suppressed during the French Revolution. In 1865 the vault was taken down and rebuilt, and restoration work on the church ended in 1993 after starting in 1990.
