About Notre-Dame de Paris
Notre-Dame de Paris, often called simply Notre-Dame, stands on the Île de la Cité, a Seine island in the 4th arrondissement of Paris. The medieval Catholic cathedral and basilica is dedicated to the Virgin Mary and serves the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Paris. It is considered among the best examples of French Gothic design, an early user of both rib vaults and flying buttresses, with large, colorful rose windows and abundant naturalistic sculpture.
Bishop Maurice de Sully began construction in 1163, and the cathedral was largely finished by 1260, although later centuries brought changes. It suffered extensive desecration during the French Revolution in the 1790s. In the 19th century it hosted the coronation of Napoleon, and Victor Hugo's novel of 1831 inspired a restoration from 1844 to 1864 under Eugène Viollet-le-Duc. In April 2019 a fire seriously damaged it, and the cathedral closed for extensive, costly repairs before reopening in December 2024.
Notre-Dame is widely recognized as a symbol of both Paris and the French nation. Pope Pius VII granted it the honorary rank of minor basilica in 1805. Since 1905 it has belonged to the French government, which maintains it, while the French Roman Catholic Church holds the exclusive rights of use. Around 12 million people a year visited it in the early 21st century, and it was the most visited monument in Paris.
How it prints
Make this print opens the generator on a 600 m square around the landmark. Buildings print at close to true scale, so the landmark grows with the print size.
| Print size | Landmark height | Scale |
|---|---|---|
| 160 mm default | 26 mm | 1:3,750 |
| 200 mm | 33 mm | 1:3,000 |

- Flying buttresses and pinnacles
- Flying buttresses arch along the nave and the apse, topped by small pinnacles, and they are the most delicate parts of the model. Print friendly adapts thin parts to the print scale; Full detail keeps them on larger prints.
- Broad towers, thin spire
- The two west towers are broad, but the spire over the crossing is a thin needle. Slow, cooled printing and 0.12 to 0.16 mm layers help the spire stay crisp; larger prints also keep the rose window relief readable.
- One piece with the ground
- Notre-Dame de Paris is joined to the ground in the exported file, and the four-side check found no floating parts, so nothing needs gluing.
- Pick the detail for your nozzle
- In the Buildings settings, set Landmark detail to Print friendly to adapt thin parts and small details to the print scale. Full detail keeps every modeled feature, for larger prints or a finer nozzle.
- Colors
- Buildings, roads, water and ground arrive as separate filament slots in the 3MF. Notre-Dame de Paris takes the building color.
- File format
- You get a 3MF for Bambu Studio, OrcaSlicer or PrusaSlicer. Any of them can save it as STL if you need one.
