About the Alberta Legislature Building

Both the Legislative Assembly of Alberta and its Executive Council meet in the Alberta Legislature Building in Edmonton, a building often shortened to "the Ledge". Its address is 10801 97 Avenue NW. It sits on a promontory above the North Saskatchewan River valley, near where Fort Edmonton, Mark V, a fur-trading post of the Hudson's Bay Company, once stood.

Construction started in August 1907, and the Beaux Arts style building was finished by 1913. Allan Merrick Jeffers and Richard Blakey were its architects, and Percy Nobbs, an architect from Montreal, assisted on the last revisions. Alberta's first Premier, Alexander Cameron Rutherford, laid the cornerstone with Governor General Albert Grey on October 1, 1909. Legislators held their first session there on November 30, 1911, and it officially opened on September 3, 1912.

The building rests on concrete piles around a steel skeleton. Granite from Vancouver Island faces the first floor, while the upper floors feature Calgary sandstone from the Glenbow Quarry. The dome has terracotta made in Tamworth, Staffordshire, England. The building is about 57 meters (187 ft) tall, and it cost more than $2 million at the time.

How it prints

Make this print opens the generator on a 600 m square around the landmark. Buildings print at close to true scale, so the landmark grows with the print size.

Dome, lantern and portico
The central dome with its small lantern, and the column-lined portico, are the finest features. Print friendly adapts the thinnest parts to the print scale; Full detail keeps them at larger sizes and a finer layer height.
One piece with the ground
The Alberta Legislature Building is joined to the ground in the exported file, and the four-side check found no floating parts, so nothing needs gluing.
Pick the detail for your nozzle
In the Buildings settings, set Landmark detail to Print friendly to adapt thin parts and small details to the print scale. Full detail keeps every modeled feature, for larger prints or a finer nozzle.
Colors
Buildings, roads, water and ground arrive as separate filament slots in the 3MF. The Alberta Legislature Building takes the building color.
File format
You get a 3MF for Bambu Studio, OrcaSlicer or PrusaSlicer. Any of them can save it as STL if you need one.
