About the Basilica of Our Lady of Peace
Yamoussoukro's Basilica of Our Lady of Peace is a Catholic minor basilica, in the city that serves as the administrative capital of Côte d'Ivoire. Guinness World Records names it the world's largest church. It overtook Saint Peter's Basilica, the previous record holder, once it was finished. Its area is 30,000 m² (320,000 sq ft) and it is 158 m (518 ft) tall, though the area figure counts a rectory and a villa that fall outside the church itself, strictly speaking. Its capacity is 18,000 worshippers, against 60,000 for St. Peter's.
Construction ran from 1985 to 1989, and the cornerstone was laid on August 10, 1985. Pope John Paul II consecrated the basilica on September 10, 1990. The Lebanese architect Pierre Fakhoury designed it, and the dome and encircled plaza took inspiration from Saint Peter's Basilica in Vatican City, though not an outright replica of it. Dumez, a French company, built it. The dome is 90 m (300 ft) across, against 41 m (135 ft) for St. Peter's, and it sits slightly lower than that dome while carrying a larger cross.
Marble imported from Italy went into its construction. The stained glass, 8,400 m² (90,000 sq ft) in all, comes from France, where France Vitrail International near Paris assembled it in 18,500 panels. Its columns are not uniform: the smaller ones carry loads, whereas the larger ones are decorative and also house elevators, rainwater conduits and other mechanical equipment. The nave seats 7,000, with room for another 11,000 people standing.
How it prints
Make this print opens the generator on a 600 m square around the landmark. Buildings print at close to true scale, so the landmark grows with the print size.
| Print size | Landmark height | Scale |
|---|---|---|

- A ribbed dome with a lantern
- The ribbed dome carries a small round lantern and a thin cross at the top. Print friendly adapts the cross and other fine parts to the print scale; slow printing and layers of 0.12 to 0.16 mm help the top stay crisp.
- Colonnades around the base
- Slender columns surround the base on several sides. Full detail keeps every column, which suits a larger print or a fine nozzle, while Print friendly adapts them to the print scale.
- One piece with the ground
- The Basilica of Our Lady of Peace is joined to the ground in the exported file, and the four-side check found no floating parts, so nothing needs gluing.
- Pick the detail for your nozzle
- In the Buildings settings, set Landmark detail to Print friendly to adapt thin parts and small details to the print scale. Full detail keeps every modeled feature, for larger prints or a finer nozzle.
- Colors
- Buildings, roads, water and ground arrive as separate filament slots in the 3MF. The Basilica of Our Lady of Peace takes the building color.
- File format
- You get a 3MF for Bambu Studio, OrcaSlicer or PrusaSlicer. Any of them can save it as STL if you need one.
