About the California Hotel and Casino

The California Hotel and Casino, nicknamed The Cal, sits in downtown Las Vegas, Nevada, and belongs to Boyd Gaming. It was the first Boyd Gaming property in the downtown area of Las Vegas. Stockholders under Sam Boyd's lead developed it, and Sam Boyd and his son Bill each held 25 percent. Despite the name, it is a Hawaiian-themed property that draws many guests from Hawaii through vacation packages.

The first hotel tower, with 11 stories, was topped off in September 1974. Its January 1, 1975, opening came with 325 rooms, two restaurants and an entertainment lounge, after a $10 million build. A $1 million renovation in 1982 added a neon sign circling the lower part of the casino between 1st Street and Ogden Avenue, and the tower was finished with a lighted parapet. In 1984 a second hotel tower, 14 stories tall, appeared to the west of the original, with a six-story parking garage; a 1994 addition at its north end lifted the room count to 781.

Boyd had once lived in Hawaii, a state where gambling is illegal, and turned toward the Hawaiian market after slow early business. He offered Hawaiian food, encouraged a more casual atmosphere and introduced vacation packages from the islands. The term "Golden Arm" became the casino's label in 1989 for Stanley Fujitake, who rolled the dice in craps for three hours and six minutes without losing.

How it prints

Make this print opens the generator on a 600 m square around the landmark. Buildings print at close to true scale, so the landmark grows with the print size.

Lettering along the roofline
The name is spelled out in lettering along the roofline. Print friendly adapts it to the print scale; Full detail keeps it, which suits a larger print.
Rows of small windows
Both towers carry fine rows of window lines. A larger print and layers of 0.12 to 0.16 mm keep them crisp.
One piece with the ground
The California Hotel and Casino is joined to the ground in the exported file, and the four-side check found no floating parts, so nothing needs gluing.
Pick the detail for your nozzle
In the Buildings settings, set Landmark detail to Print friendly to adapt thin parts and small details to the print scale. Full detail keeps every modeled feature, for larger prints or a finer nozzle.
Colors
Buildings, roads, water and ground arrive as separate filament slots in the 3MF. The California Hotel and Casino takes the building color.
File format
You get a 3MF for Bambu Studio, OrcaSlicer or PrusaSlicer. Any of them can save it as STL if you need one.
