About the Charles Trumbull Hayden Library

The Charles Trumbull Hayden Library was built in 1966 on Arizona State University's Tempe campus, at 300 East Orange Mall. Its namesake, Charles Trumbull Hayden, founded Tempe and was the first board president of the Arizona Territorial Normal School, the school that became ASU.

The architects were Frederick Weaver and Richard Drover of the firm Weaver & Drover, and the contractor was TGK Construction Company Inc. Work began in 1965 on the five-story building. In August 1966, more than 600,000 volumes were moved in from the Matthews Library, and a dedication event in November 1966 featured Senator Carl T. Hayden speaking about his father's contributions to Tempe.

The original architects designed an underground plaza and entrance, added in 1989, and a renovation by Ayers Saint Gross was completed in 2020. Hayden is ASU's largest library, with millions of books on the humanities and social sciences. Among its special collections are the University Archives, the Labriola National Indian Data Center and the Chicano Research Collection, plus the Arizona Collection.

How it prints

Make this print opens the generator on a 600 m square around the landmark. Buildings print at close to true scale, so the landmark grows with the print size.

Landmark height and scale at three print sizes

Roof slats and ground-level columns
The roof carries fine parallel slats and the ground level has a dense row of columns. A layer height of 0.12-0.16 mm and a larger print keep them clear; Print friendly may merge the finest ones.
One piece with the ground
The Charles Trumbull Hayden Library is joined to the ground in the exported file, and the four-side check found no floating parts, so nothing needs gluing.
Pick the detail for your nozzle
In the Buildings settings, set Landmark detail to Print friendly to adapt thin parts and small details to the print scale. Full detail keeps every modeled feature, for larger prints or a finer nozzle.
Colors
Buildings, roads, water and ground arrive as separate filament slots in the 3MF. The Charles Trumbull Hayden Library takes the building color.
File format
You get a 3MF for Bambu Studio, OrcaSlicer or PrusaSlicer. Any of them can save it as STL if you need one.

Common questions

Is there a Charles Trumbull Hayden Library STL I can download?

Mini Skyline builds the file for you in your browser and exports 3MF, which every major slicer opens. If you need an STL, open the 3MF in your slicer and export it from there.

Any print size from 40 mm across. The Charles Trumbull Hayden Library grows with the print: about 5 mm tall on the default 160 mm print. For a model larger than your printer bed, Project Mode splits the area into tiles.

Is it free?
