3 mm tall on a 160 mm print
Make this print opens the generator on a 600 m square around the landmark. Buildings print at close to true scale, so the landmark grows with the print size.
- Keep the porch posts clear
The long porch roof rests on slender posts. Choose Print friendly for a small print; a larger print with Full detail preserves more of the posts and the small roof-edge details.
- Preserve the chimney tops
The raised chimneys have small details around their tops. Use a larger print and 0.12–0.16 mm layers to keep those details crisp, and print slowly with cooling for the narrower chimney.
- One piece with the ground
Hermit's Rest is joined to the ground in the exported file, and the four-side check found no floating parts, so nothing needs gluing.
- Pick the detail for your nozzle
In the Buildings settings, set Landmark detail to Print friendly to adapt thin parts and small details to the print scale. Full detail keeps every modeled feature, for larger prints or a finer nozzle.
- Colors
Buildings, roads, water and ground arrive as separate filament slots in the 3MF. Hermit's Rest takes the building color.
- File format
You get a 3MF for Bambu Studio, OrcaSlicer or PrusaSlicer. Any of them can save it as STL if you need one.
About Hermit's Rest
Hermit's Rest stands on the Grand Canyon's South Rim in Arizona, where Hermit Road reaches its western end. Built in 1914, it served travelers taking Fred Harvey Company coaches toward Hermit Camp. Mary Colter designed the main building as a place for those tourists to rest. Its name refers to Louis Boucher, a prospector born in Canada.
Colter gave the exposed building the appearance of a rock formation, with a conspicuous chimney made of rubblestone. Part of the structure sits within a mound of earth near the canyon's edge. Visitors approach along a path beside a stone arch; its broken bell came from a New Mexico Spanish mission, where Colter salvaged it.
A porch carried on peeled logs leads into an interior with a space that rises through two levels. An alcove on the south wall contains a fireplace and a raised floor, while a snack bar occupies the west side. Colter also chose the furnishings. The building belongs to the Mary Jane Colter Buildings group, designated a National Historic Landmark in 1987.
About this model
Hermit's Rest is one of more than 4,300 landmark models in Mini Skyline. They are made with AI, and each one is checked from four sides in its real surroundings before release. Everything around it is built from OpenStreetMap and Overture map data. If you would rather print the shape from map data, turn off Landmark models in the Buildings settings.
