  1. Glass wall and screen

A glass curtain wall and its fine screen pattern carry the smallest details on a building of this kind. Print friendly adapts thin parts and small details to the print scale; Full detail keeps every modeled feature for a larger print or a finer nozzle.

  2. One piece with the ground

The Institut du monde arabe is joined to the ground in the exported file, and the four-side check found no floating parts, so nothing needs gluing.

  3. Pick the detail for your nozzle

In the Buildings settings, set Landmark detail to Print friendly to adapt thin parts and small details to the print scale. Full detail keeps every modeled feature, for larger prints or a finer nozzle.

  4. Colors

Buildings, roads, water and ground arrive as separate filament slots in the 3MF. The Institut du monde arabe takes the building color.

  5. File format

You get a 3MF for Bambu Studio, OrcaSlicer or PrusaSlicer. Any of them can save it as STL if you need one.

About the Institut du monde arabe

France and 18 Arab countries set up the Institut du monde arabe in Paris in 1980, to research the Arab world and spread knowledge of its culture and spiritual values. Its building stands in the 5th arrondissement, on Rue des Fossés Saint Bernard, and contains a museum, a library, an auditorium, a restaurant, offices and meeting rooms.

It was President Valéry Giscard d'Estaing who conceived the project in 1973; the building went up between 1981 and 1987 under President François Mitterrand as one of his Grands Projets. Libya joined the institute in 1984, and Mitterrand inaugurated the building on November 30, 1987. A 1981 competition was won by Architecture-Studio working with Jean Nouvel. Its floor area is 16,894 m2 (181,850 square feet).

The building stands between the Jussieu Campus and the Seine and acts as a buffer between them; its river front follows the curve of the water. The southwest face, by contrast, is a flat glass curtain wall looking across toward Notre Dame and the Île de la Cité. Behind the glass, 240 motor-controlled apertures open and close with the sun, forming a movable screen that controls light and heat. Its library holds more than 100,000 documents.
