About La Pedrera (Casa Milà)
Casa Milà, popularly known as La Pedrera, which means 'the stone quarry', stands in Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain, as a Modernista building. The nickname refers to its unconventional, rough-hewn look and was given by citizens who disapproved of its unusual appearance. It was Antoni Gaudí's last private residence project, constructed between 1906 and 1912. The couple Pere Milà and Roser Segimón commissioned it, planning to live on the main floor and rent out the other apartments.
Its undulating stone facade and twisting wrought iron balconies made it controversial at the time. Among its structural innovations are a self-supporting stone facade, a free-plan floor, an underground garage and a terrace on the roof. Each floor covers 1,323 m² on a plot of 1,620 m², and Gaudí conceived the house as one continuous curve, outside and in. It has two buildings arranged around two courtyards, which light its nine stories and give the plan the shape of an asymmetrical 8.
The roof is one of its most notable features, topped by chimneys, ventilation fans, skylights and staircase exits. Built from brick finished with lime, marble fragments or glass, each has a practical function and is also a sculpture integrated into the building. UNESCO declared it a World Heritage Site in 1984. The Fundació Catalunya La Pedrera has had its headquarters there since 2013 and runs visits, exhibitions and further cultural and educational programs.
How it prints

- Small chimneys on the roof
- The roof carries many small cone-shaped chimneys and other small rooftop forms. Print friendly adapts these small parts to the print scale; Full detail keeps them, which suits a larger print or a fine nozzle.
- A wavy facade with balconies
- The curving facade has thin balcony railings and many ledges. A larger print size and layers of 0.12 to 0.16 mm keep the curves clean.
- One piece with the ground
- La Pedrera (Casa Milà) is joined to the ground in the exported file, and the four-side check found no floating parts, so nothing needs gluing.
- Pick the detail for your nozzle
- In the Buildings settings, set Landmark detail to Print friendly to adapt thin parts and small details to the print scale. Full detail keeps every modeled feature, for larger prints or a finer nozzle.
- Colors
- Buildings, roads, water and ground arrive as separate filament slots in the 3MF. La Pedrera (Casa Milà) takes the building color.
- File format
- You get a 3MF for Bambu Studio, OrcaSlicer or PrusaSlicer. Any of them can save it as STL if you need one.
