12 mm tall on a 160 mm print
Make this print opens the generator on a 600 m square around the landmark. Buildings print at close to true scale, so the landmark grows with the print size.
- Long rooflines and windows
A broad library building has long rooflines and repeated windows, which are the finest parts of the print. Print it larger, or choose Full detail, so those lines stay crisp.
- One piece with the ground
The Library of the Russian Academy of Sciences is joined to the ground in the exported file, and the four-side check found no floating parts, so nothing needs gluing.
- Pick the detail for your nozzle
In the Buildings settings, set Landmark detail to Print friendly to adapt thin parts and small details to the print scale. Full detail keeps every modeled feature, for larger prints or a finer nozzle.
- Colors
Buildings, roads, water and ground arrive as separate filament slots in the 3MF. The Library of the Russian Academy of Sciences takes the building color.
- File format
You get a 3MF for Bambu Studio, OrcaSlicer or PrusaSlicer. Any of them can save it as STL if you need one.
About the Library of the Russian Academy of Sciences
The Russian Academy of Sciences Library is a large state-owned library on Vasilievsky Island in Saint Petersburg. Employees of Russian Academy of Sciences institutions and scholars with higher education may use it. Beyond the central collection, it takes in holdings kept by academic institutes in Saint Petersburg and in other cities. Peter I founded it by decree in 1714, and it later joined the St. Petersburg Academy of Sciences.
Academic institutions have been required to provide one free copy of every published item since 1747, and from 1783 publishers across the country have had the same obligation. In 1924 and 1925 the collections moved into a building constructed for the library in 1914, which had served as a military hospital in the First World War. The collections stayed in the city through the siege of Leningrad, from 1941 to 1944, and the library remained open.
On February 15, 1988, a fire destroyed or damaged a large part of the collections, including many foreign scientific volumes from the Baer Collection. Heat and smoke damaged a further two to three million of the 12 million books housed there. The damp books were frozen, then citizens dried them at home after a radio appeal; by late March 1988, 93% had returned after drying. About 10,000 books became moldy.
