138 m of Los Angeles City Hall, 39 mm on your shelf
Make this print opens the generator on a 600 m square around the landmark. Buildings print at close to true scale, so the landmark grows with the print size.
- Print the block larger
The model is a single tall mass on its city block, so its height is what reads first. Print it larger to keep the proportions crisp, and set layers to 0.12 to 0.16 mm.
- Cooling for tall walls
The walls run straight up with little to break them. Slow the print and keep cooling on so they stay straight, and choose Full detail for a large print.
- One piece with the ground
Los Angeles City Hall is joined to the ground in the exported file, and the four-side check found no floating parts, so nothing needs gluing.
- Pick the detail for your nozzle
In the Buildings settings, set Landmark detail to Print friendly to adapt thin parts and small details to the print scale. Full detail keeps every modeled feature, for larger prints or a finer nozzle.
- Colors
Buildings, roads, water and ground arrive as separate filament slots in the 3MF. Los Angeles City Hall takes the building color.
- File format
You get a 3MF for Bambu Studio, OrcaSlicer or PrusaSlicer. Any of them can save it as STL if you need one.
About Los Angeles City Hall
City Hall occupies a block of downtown Los Angeles's Civic Center, between Main, Temple, First and Spring streets. The building was finished in 1928 and holds the mayor's office as well as the chambers and offices of the City Council. Its height of 138 m (454 ft) made it the tallest in Los Angeles until 1966, and it is also described as the tallest base-isolated structure anywhere in the world.
Three architects shared the design work. The tower follows the Mausoleum at Halicarnassus, one of antiquity's seven wonders, and owes something to the Los Angeles Public Library, which was finished just before construction started. Sand from all 58 California counties and water from 21 historical missions went into the tower's concrete; the building has 32 floors.
A retrofit for earthquakes running from 1998 to 2001 was intended to let the building sway and to keep it usable, with minimal damage, after a magnitude 8.2 quake. Visitors can reach an observation level on the 27th floor. At the top, the pyramid's peak holds an airplane beacon known as the Lindbergh Beacon. The Police Department has carried an image of the building on its badges since 1940, and 1976 brought designation as a city Historic-Cultural Monument.
