About Wilshire Grand Center

Wilshire Grand Center is a skyscraper in downtown Los Angeles' financial district, in California. It takes up a whole city block bounded by Wilshire Boulevard and by 7th, Figueroa and Francisco streets, and it rises 335.3 m (1,100 ft) over 73 floors. Counting its spire, it is the tallest building in the U.S. west of Chicago. That standing comes from the spire: San Francisco's Salesforce Tower and the U.S. Bank Tower in Los Angeles both have higher roofs.

The complex was first envisioned as two towers, the taller reaching 380 m (1,250 ft), but it was built as one tower holding a hotel with 889 rooms, the InterContinental Los Angeles Downtown, plus retail space, an observation deck and offices. A.C. Martin Partners, a Los Angeles-based firm, oversaw the project and prepared the design. Its sail-shaped crown, lit with LED lighting at night, is a distinctive feature. The spire adds 90 m (294 ft) and weighs 91,000 kg (200,000 pounds). The tower is also the first Los Angeles building taller than 75 feet to go up without a flat roof since 1974.

A hotel stood on the same site from 1952, when it opened as the Hotel Statler and later became the Wilshire Grand Hotel; it closed on December 31, 2011. On February 15, 2014, work on the new tower began with a record-setting pour of 16,500 m3 (21,600 cu yd) of concrete in just 20 hours, forming a base 5 m (18 feet) thick. The building opened on June 23, 2017. Its hotel has an open-air bar on the 73rd floor that is the tallest in the Western Hemisphere.

How it prints

Make this print opens the generator on a 600 m square around the landmark. Buildings print at close to true scale, so the landmark grows with the print size.

Landmark height and scale at three print sizes

A needle-thin spire
The spire is a very thin needle on top of a slender tower. Print friendly adapts it to the print scale; Full detail keeps it, best on a larger print, printed slowly with good cooling.
A sail-shaped crown
The top of the tower curves into a scooped crown. Layers of 0.12–0.16 mm keep that curve smooth.
Pick the detail for your nozzle
In the Buildings settings, set Landmark detail to Print friendly to adapt thin parts and small details to the print scale. Full detail keeps every modeled feature, for larger prints or a finer nozzle.
Colors
Buildings, roads, water and ground arrive as separate filament slots in the 3MF. Wilshire Grand Center takes the building color.
File format
You get a 3MF for Bambu Studio, OrcaSlicer or PrusaSlicer. Any of them can save it as STL if you need one.

Common questions

Is there a Wilshire Grand Center STL I can download?

Mini Skyline builds the file for you in your browser and exports 3MF, which every major slicer opens. If you need an STL, open the 3MF in your slicer and export it from there.

How big can I print it?

Any print size from 40 mm across. Wilshire Grand Center grows with the print: about 93 mm tall on the default 160 mm print. For a model larger than your printer bed, Project Mode splits the area into tiles.

Is it free?

Yes. Generation runs in your browser, with no account and nothing behind a paywall.
