About the Morelia Cathedral

Morelia Cathedral, officially the Metropolitan Cathedral of Morelia, is where the Catholic Archdiocese of Morelia in Mexico has its seat. It stands in Morelia, the capital of the Mexican state of Michoacán, and helps form the layout of the Historic Center. Baroque in style, it is made of pink stone, which gives it its distinctive color. Construction ran from 1660 to 1744.

Bishop Friar Marcos Ramírez Del Prado laid the first stone on May 6, 1660. The Italian architect Vizencio Barroquio led the construction until his death in 1692, and his disciples finished the work 52 years later. The exterior is a large mass of pink quarry stone with two Baroque towers and a triple facade with carved altarpieces. Inside, the Doric order predominates, and the interior has three naves, with 14 columns holding up the central one.

The cathedral is considered the most emblematic building of Morelia. Its two tall towers, visible across the city valley, are 66.8 m high. Among Mexico's cathedrals, it alone faces north rather than south. The monumental organ has 4,600 voices or flutes, and events staged inside include an international organ festival and an international music festival, both named for Morelia.

How it prints

Make this print opens the generator on a 600 m square around the landmark. Buildings print at close to true scale, so the landmark grows with the print size.

Landmark height and scale at three print sizes
Print size Landmark height Scale
160 mm default 19 mm 1:3,750
200 mm 24 mm 1:3,000
256 mm 30 mm 1:2,344

Tall tiered towers
Each tower narrows through several tiers to a small lantern and cross. Printing slowly and using layers of 0.12 to 0.16 mm helps keep the tops crisp.
Domes and rooftop pinnacles
A ribbed dome and rows of small pinnacles line the roofs. Print friendly adapts them to the print scale; Full detail keeps them, which suits a larger print or a fine nozzle.
One piece with the ground
The Morelia Cathedral is joined to the ground in the exported file, and the four-side check found no floating parts, so nothing needs gluing.
Pick the detail for your nozzle
In the Buildings settings, set Landmark detail to Print friendly to adapt thin parts and small details to the print scale. Full detail keeps every modeled feature, for larger prints or a finer nozzle.
Colors
Buildings, roads, water and ground arrive as separate filament slots in the 3MF. The Morelia Cathedral takes the building color.
File format
You get a 3MF for Bambu Studio, OrcaSlicer or PrusaSlicer. Any of them can save it as STL if you need one.

Common questions

Is there a Morelia Cathedral STL I can download?

Mini Skyline builds the file for you in your browser and exports 3MF, which every major slicer opens. If you need an STL, open the 3MF in your slicer and export it from there.

How big can I print it?

Any print size from 40 mm across. The Morelia Cathedral grows with the print: about 19 mm tall on the default 160 mm print. For a model larger than your printer bed, Project Mode splits the area into tiles.

Is it free?

Yes. Generation runs in your browser, with no account and nothing behind a paywall.
