About the North Carolina Aviation Museum Hangars

The displays at the North Carolina Aviation Museum fill two hangars: static aircraft, uniforms, memorabilia and a big collection of aircraft models. Asheboro businessman Jim Peddycord started it in 1994 as the Foundation for Aircraft Conservation, beginning with a few of his own "warbirds" and an empty hangar at Asheboro Regional Airport.

Craig Branson bought a B-25 in 1998 to restore, and local backers funded a second hangar for it. Restoration of the plane finished in 2004. Around 2001–2 the facility became The North Carolina Aviation Museum and was chosen as the official site of the state's aviation hall of fame.

150+ aircraft models hang from the gift shop ceiling, and larger models have wingspans up to ten feet. Nearly all the aircraft shown belong to private owners and are on loan, and the collection changes periodically. The museum began sponsoring a fly-in in 1996, held on the second Saturday in June, with visiting aircraft on show, helicopter rides and free flights in small planes for children.

How it prints

Make this print opens the generator on a 600 m square around the landmark. Buildings print at close to true scale, so the landmark grows with the print size.

Lettering on the wall
The side wall carries raised lettering. They are fine details on a small building, so use a larger print size or Full detail to keep them readable.
Wall ribs and door outline
Vertical ribs and a door outline mark the long side. A layer height of 0.12–0.16 mm keeps those lines crisp.
One piece with the ground
The North Carolina Aviation Museum Hangars is joined to the ground in the exported file, and the four-side check found no floating parts, so nothing needs gluing.
Pick the detail for your nozzle
In the Buildings settings, set Landmark detail to Print friendly to adapt thin parts and small details to the print scale. Full detail keeps every modeled feature, for larger prints or a finer nozzle.
Colors
Buildings, roads, water and ground arrive as separate filament slots in the 3MF. The North Carolina Aviation Museum Hangars takes the building color.
File format
You get a 3MF for Bambu Studio, OrcaSlicer or PrusaSlicer. Any of them can save it as STL if you need one.

Common questions

Is there a North Carolina Aviation Museum Hangars STL I can download?

Mini Skyline builds the file for you in your browser and exports 3MF, which every major slicer opens. If you need an STL, open the 3MF in your slicer and export it from there.

How big can I print it?

Any print size from 40 mm across. The North Carolina Aviation Museum Hangars grows with the print: about 3 mm tall on the default 160 mm print. For a model larger than your printer bed, Project Mode splits the area into tiles.

Is it free?

Yes. Generation runs in your browser, with no account and nothing behind a paywall.
